Interesting that our Cover Story is about a ‘Mini Gun’ operator (SCA Property Group) and the sector’s figures are tabled in the same edition!
The real story here lies in the very modern history of the sector. Very modern in our terms is 12 years – we began our Mini Gun feature in 2006. In those days, the sector was dominated by Centro and the management, leasing and marketing was done mostly at a distance with local real estate agents playing a major role.
The challenge with these sort of centres – Convenience, Neighbourhood, the larger ones (close to 20,000m2) at a stretch could be called sub-regionals – is managing them. They don’t warrant a full-time, on the spot manager, let alone a leasing or marketing executive. In the past 12 years, most of the major players have addressed that challenge and the results have been quite phenomenal.
