We always think that Little Guns give you a real picture of what’s happening ‘retail wise’ in our centres – actual shopping that is: buying everyday stuff as distinct from leisure shopping. Big Guns change dramatically; the food and beverage component, for example, has expanded enormously in the past few years with increasing numbers going to a Big Gun centre for a Saturday night out. But the Little Gun centres are grass roots – fundamental retail.
It’s reported that retail sales across the nation are down.
Not so in shopping centres!
100 Little Gun centres are featured this year. In a time of almost negative inflation and negative wage rises across the board, these Little Gun centres, accounting for some $19.2 billion in sales, are tracking rather well.
