Sydney Fringe Festival has teamed up with World Square for a cultural concierge program throughout September that features a mind-blowing, large-scale suspended inflatable structure and roving ambassadors from Sydney Fringe and World Square to help visitors get the most out of their Sydney Fringe experience.
After nearly two years confined to our homes, artists and creatives are putting on more than 500 shows across 80 venues around town as part of Sydney’s Fringe Festival.
Rosemary Antonios, General Manager of World Square Shopping Centre said: “World Square has built a strong arts, cultural and creative hub that has always supported the vibrancy of our city. Sydney Fringe at World Square shows our commitment to making arts and culture an everyday experience and easier for visitors to participate in.”
At the ever-vibrant World Square, visitors will be greeted by eye-catching art that’s exuberant, playful and teaming with joy, thanks to a unique collaboration between It’s Beautiful and Useful Studio (IBU), World Square, and Sydney Fringe. Set to immediately catch the eye and attention of visitors entering World Square Shopping Centre via the corner of George and Liverpool Street.
To complement the artwork and tailor a personal World Square x Fringe experience, Sydney Fringe has introduced the Cultural Concierge Program. The Cultural Concierge and Fringe Ambassadors will be roving around World Square every Thursday, Friday and Saturday throughout September.
Live In Colour Artwork
Live in Colour was created for Sydney Fringe Festival 2022 by Matthew Aberline and Maurice Goldberg for IBU. The multi-media installation features a mind-blowing large-scale suspended inflatable structure, an inflatable concierge throne, and a series of vivacious video works.
Using fashion and design as a vehicle for radical self-expression, it draws inspiration from the wearable artworks created for the Sydney Fringe 2022 identity, which encompasses body positivity and fearless energy.
Kerri Glasscock, CEO and Festival Director of Sydney Fringe said: “This is a fantastic activation and we are delighted to be working with World Square this year. It’s rare in Sydney for independent artists to be able to find a fantastic city location to install works of this scale so it’s thrilling to see this incredible work up and ready for everyone to enjoy “
Manufactured by a collective of IBU artists in Sydney – known for its focus on community involvement and breaking down the barriers to creativity – the artwork is made of a fabric constructed predominantly from recycled PET drinking bottles, which also speaks to IBU’s focus on practising art sustainably.
As co-creator Matt explains, “After years of creating outrageous wearables for the entertainment industry, I’m super excited to bring this flamboyant, fun, energetic sculptural installation to World Square that inspires people to be the most outrageous, fabulous and joyful version of themselves. After the difficult times of the last few years, I really want to focus on fun and good times!”
