Scentre Group has launched some exciting pop up activations across Westfield Chatswood, Westfield Parramatta and Westfield Penrith as part of the NSW Government’s CBDs Revitalisation Program to create a vibrant 24-hour economy.
Kickstarting the activations on Friday 16 September, Westfield Chatswood delivers a feast for the senses with ‘The Chatswood Food Trail’, a larger-than-life pop up celebrating Chatswood’s well-known culinary landscape. The Chatswood Food trail offers an incredible array of installations, including a giant cup of noodles, steamed dumpling basket, bubble tea, sushi tray, ramen bowl and sunny side up laneway, with fried eggs sculptures peppering Hawker Lane. Celebrity Chefs Adam Liaw and Dan Hong will also provide cooking demonstrations throughout the two-week pop-up event.
Scentre Group General Manager of Brand Activation and Community, Jacqui Waine, said the pop-up event is a sensory experience designed to showcase the best of Chatswood in an exciting new way.
“Chatswood Food Trail is a one-of-a-kind event that reinforces our ambition to deliver unmissable experiences for our customers. We can’t wait to showcase the culinary delicacies Chatswood is famous for and look forward to welcoming visitors to our food-filled centre.”
Alongside the installations, Chatswood Food Trail will also feature live performances by the Hot Potato Band, DJ Kristie & Sax, and the dynamic Maple Rose duo. Cooking demonstrations and kids’ workshops will also be available.
Over at Westfield Parramatta, ‘Your Sports Field’ also kicked off on Friday 16 September, with a larger-than-life pop-up throughout Parramatta celebrating the city’s rich sporting history.
‘Your Sports Field’ is a family-friendly, free outdoor event designed in celebration of the impact of sport in the Parramatta community and has been delivered in partnership with grassroots community groups and professional sporting teams. Coaching clinics and skills training workshops will also be hosted at Centenary Square to finetune the skills of Parramatta’s next generation of sports stars and get them face to face with their homegrown soccer, netball, cricket, NRL and boxing heroes.
The two-week-long event, proudly funded by the NSW Government through the CBDs Revitalisation Program to create a vibrant 24-hour economy, features over-sized sports-themed installations, sports zones for the local community to play in, appearances from sporting legends Peter Sterling and Andrew Redmayne, screening nights of Australia’s most nail-biting sporting matches, professional player-run kids coaching clinics and more.
“Your Sports Field is a one-of-a-kind event that reinforces our ambition to celebrate our local community and deliver unmissable experiences for our customers. We can’t wait to celebrate the sporting accomplishments Parramatta is famous for and welcome customers to experience all the activities happening in-centre and at Centenary Square,” said Waine.
During the 15-day event, Westfield Parramatta will also host a Collectors Card Grading service for avid sports fans to get their memorabilia professionally graded on-site. A sneaker personalisation service will also be available for customers to put their own spin on their favourite sneakers.
On Friday 23 September, the Western Sydney Wanderers will also have soccer balls available to personalise for their fans for a small fee.
For the kids, a sports zone will also be activated in-centre with foosball, toss the bag games, a giant Connect 4, face painting, and balloon bending. A free sunset screening of the 1996 live-action/animated sports comedy film Space Jam will be held on Saturday 24 September.
24-Hour Economy Commissioner Michael Rodrigues said, “After a tough time for retail, hospitality and the sporting industries, this investment is helping business draw crowds with a unique sporting draw card. Family-friendly activities like the Your Sports Field activation will draw people back into the Parramatta CBD encouraging audiences to reconnect in urban environments, and in the process accelerating economic recovery.
From Thursday 22nd September, Penrith’s best restaurants, bars, pubs, and galleries will be opening their doors to ‘ICONIC’, an all-new four-day festival hosted by Westfield Penrith for a celebration of community, dining, art, family, and culture, featuring icons from the local area including the Museum of Fire, the Penrith Panthers, live art installations, local bar takeovers and more.
Waine said the festival was an exciting opportunity to unite Penrith in a new and unexpected way.
“We’re very proud to unveil ICONIC, a festival designed in celebration of Penrith’s culture and community. In collaboration with the community and neighbouring businesses, ICONIC is underpinned by our commitment to delivering innovative experiences for everyone to enjoy. We’re looking forward to welcoming Western Sydney locals to enjoy the festivities and encourage people of all ages to come along and join the fun,” said Waine.
ICONIC has been created to celebrate Penrith’s cultural history and vibrant community, featuring an array of entertainment, dining, and workshops for everyone to enjoy. To carry on the celebrations after dark, Westfield Penrith has teamed up with Penrith’s most ‘ICONIC’ venues to offer dining deals, rooftop acoustic sessions and a daytime live music performance from Aussie glam-electronic duo, Client Liaison, on Saturday 24 September.
Member for Penrith Stuart Ayres said, “This is about bringing Penrith CBD’s best spaces to life, supporting local businesses and getting jobs back for our creative industries. Penrith has plenty of amazing businesses and with the support of the NSW Government CBD Revitalisation Program we will be getting more people back through their doors and putting a smile on people’s faces with some wonderful experiences.”
