In preparation for the school year ahead, Robina Town Centre have partnered with Nutrition Australia and YMCA to deliver a series of healthy food workshops for kids, which will be equal parts education alongside immersive, palette-pleasing fun.

Kids in The Kitchen workshops encourage school-age kids to pop on an apron and select from a variety of ingredients to build the perfect pizza or create a nutritious salad jar while engaging in age-appropriate conversations about healthy food choices.

“Kids love to be involved in what they eat, and by giving them the tools to make healthy and nutritious choices about food, preparing school lunches can be something both parents and kids can enjoy,” said Ashlee Hume, Marketing Manager of Robina Town Centre.

“We are thrilled to partner with Nutrition Australia to offer parents an educational option as a school holiday activity. Not only will kids have fun creating in the kitchen, but they will take away some valuable knowledge ahead of the school year too,” Hume said.

Kids learn how to prepare their own school lunchboxes

As a non-government, non-profit, community-based organisation promoting the health and well-being of Australians by inspiring healthy eating, Nutrition Australia aims to encourage Gold Coast families to create healthy and enjoyable school lunchboxes together.

According to Nutrition Australia, children consume around 30% of their daily food intake at school, so foods in their lunchboxes play an important role in both learning and development.

Along with basic nutrition advice and guidance on what makes a healthy meal, workshops will provide participants with recipe cards to take home so school lunchboxes can get off to a healthy start in 2023.

Nutrition Australia recommends a healthy, balanced lunch box for all children should include a mix of foods from each of the five food groups

Kids In the Kitchen Workshops will be child-friendly 30 minutes, with sessions starting from 9.30am – 1.00pm from January 16-18 for pizza decorating and salad jar making from January 19-22. A fee of $5 per participant will serve as a donation to be split between charities Nutrition Australia and the YMCA. Bookings are essential and workshops will take place on a special Kids In the Kitchen set that will please mini master-chefs outside Myer and Kookai on the Ground Level at Robina Town Centre.

As an added Back to School bonus, parents will have the chance to get lunchbox ready with Robina Town Centre giving school holiday shoppers the chance to instantly win popular Back to School essentials from Citron including Triton lunchboxes, lunch bags, drink bottles and the cutest tot pots from January 9–22 when spending $80 or more at participating retailers.
