Kiwi Property’s LynnMall is celebrating its 60th anniversary this month with a series of activities that pay homage to the centre’s history.
When it opened on 30 October 1963, LynnMall became New Zealand’s very first indoor shopping mall, offering the west Auckland community a variety of amenities and shops all under one roof.
During the past six decades, the centre has evolved with changing customer tastes, from offering bed-making and baby competitions in the 1960s/1970s to walking groups and the worldwide cuisine that’s offered today.
Leading the birthday celebrations is LynnMall’s Marketing Manager, Karla Robertson, who has a history with the centre spanning back to her involvement as a baby in the 1976 baby competition.
“We are so proud to have reached such a significant milestone and can’t wait to gather with our customers, retailers and the wider community to celebrate together,” she said.
Throughout October, loyal locals are invited to take part in the birthday celebrations through a series of specials and activities that have been created with the mall’s history in mind.
On Monday, shoppers were able to purchase a coffee at 1963 prices – just 35 cents – from participating retailers. The offer was a huge success with customers and sold out before the end of Wednesday, despite Kiwi Property releasing additional vouchers to keep up with demand.
Next week, customers will be able to enjoy $6 foodie deals from Bodrum Kitchen, Dunkin Donuts, Food Du, Kage, Muffin Break, Rolls of Vietnam, Starbucks and Upper Crust.
Meanwhile, LynnMall’s style-conscious-customers have the chance to reflect on fashion from the past 60 years at a special showcase curated by Auckland personal stylist Coby Haimes, featuring a range of fantastic designs from retailers, including Farmers that have been at the centre since it opened.
To mark LynnMall’s diamond anniversary, LynnMall is also giving away a $25k platinum solitaire diamond ring, from David Keefe Jewellers, the centre’s longest-serving independent retailer.
The celebrations will be wrapped up on the last weekend of the month (28-29 October) with an array of entertainment and treats.
