Six Mirvac Retail Centres will launch ‘Bark Fest’ on Saturday 20 August, with a week-long festival of events and activities from pet photos to pooch pampering and treats in celebration of International Dog Day on Friday 26 August.
‘Bark Fest’ is one of many initiatives developed to bring together proud fur parents and their fun-loving pooches as a part of Mirvac Retail’s inclusive Together + Co community program, which is all about recognising and celebrating Australian families of all shapes and sizes.
With 40% of Australian households now having a dog, there is a growing need to create accessible, pet-friendly purpose-built spaces to accommodate pets and provide pet-friendly amenities, alongside access to bespoke pet retailers and safe outdoor spaces for play.
Mirvac Retail General Manager Kelly Miller said, “Creating spaces and environments that cater to the needs of our customers is at the core of what we do. So many of our centres have been evolved with dog owners in mind, ensuring fantastic indoor and outdoor environments that have become very popular with our local community of dog-owners.”
“As an animal lover myself, I am thrilled that we are launching the first ‘Bark Fest’ on a national level, bringing together our pet-loving community and our fantastic pet retailers for a week-long festival of fun, all whilst raising awareness for local charity partners who do fantastic work in taking care of orphaned dogs and cats. This is an event for the entire community, so we encourage all locals to come along and enjoy the events and offers, whether you have a furry family member or not.”
Participating destinations include Birkenhead Point, East Village, South Village, Rhodes Waterside, Moonee Ponds Central and Orion Springfield Central. Each centre has its own program of activities, giveaways and offers and all are launching the first Vanity Fur: Best Dressed Photo Comp asking shoppers to upload a photo of their dog in their finest outfit to go in the draw to win a $1,000 Coles gift card.
‘Bark Fest’ takes place from Saturday 20 August through Sunday 28 August.
