ISPT’s Karingal Hub has unveiled its new Under The Sea art experience made from a variety of materials and techniques from six Melbourne-based artists. Inspired by the local landscape and Karingal Hub’s location at the gateway to the Mornington Peninsula, the artists have joined forces to create an immersive activation that transports guests of all ages to an ocean escape.

The interactive large-scale art maze comprises of three rooms, each offering a unique and memorable moment for visitors to travel through. Highlights include an anamorphic mural with the illusion that art is leaping out at guests, illuminated walls with neon-powered jellyfish and UV-painted fish plus coral-inspired inflatables and an underwater-themed mural.

“We are thrilled to see our Under The Sea experience come to life at Karingal Town Square. It has been an honour to collaborate with a talented group of local artists who have drawn upon the Peninsula area to create a meaningful and artistic activation that further contributes to Karingal Hub’s position as a leading destination for lifestyle, community connection and culture,” said Richard Devlin, Centre Manager of Karingal Hub Shopping Centre.

The Under The Sea art maze comes to life with murals and artworks created by talented artists including Sahil Roy, Melanie Caple, Chuck Mayfield, David Lee Pereira, Cax One and Maria-Rosa Szychowska. The respected group spans a range of artistic styles such as large-scale murals, graffiti and public installations that have featured both locally and internationally.

“Tasked with creating a dynamic abstract composition that lures the audience into an immersive underwater wonderland, my work for Under The Sea has been inspired by movement of the oceans, a flowing current of cool blues heightened by sound and light. It has been an honour to work alongside some of Melbourne’s finest local artists and I can’t wait for guests to embark on the art maze adventure,” said Sahil Roy.

Under The Sea activation is in Karingal Hub’s Town Square precinct from Thursday 27 July to Sunday 27 August.

The custom-built activation will further enhance Karingal Hub’s Town Square precinct, designed as a place to gather, dine, connect and play while inspiring and encouraging creative expression. In close proximity to and complementing the activation is Karingal Hub’s public art piece, Sound Shell created by local artist Christabel Wigley, which was unveiled in September 2022.
