‘If you don’t like to read you haven’t found the right book’… J.K Rowling. Growing on the trend of the shared economy and the movement to detox from technology, Post Office Square has opened The Little Library in the heart of Brisbane’s CBD.
The Little Library is now open at Post Office Square. This free pop-up community library, one of the first to open in a CBD Shopping Centre, is based around the simple ‘swap and go’ premise. The library is in a shared space, a customer can sit, eat their lunch and enjoy a good book or simply choose a book to take with them.
Colliers International Portfolio Manager, Melinda Boyle, said the community space follows the worldwide free library movement. ‘We only ask our borrowers to either bring back the book or bring one in to share.’ Boyle said, ‘Books have been sourced from both The Salvation Army and the Asthma Foundation and include a range of fiction books from a wide variety of titles and authors. We’re sure our customers will find something they enjoy.’
The library, located in Post Office Square, near the Adelaide Street entrance, provides a welcoming space where people can sit, relax and read. It is a shared community area so discussion or sharing of books is also welcome. The community is encouraged to donate their favourite books and also leave notes or messages in the front cover of books.
It is hoped the Post Office Square pop-up Little Library reignites a love of reading, builds a community and a chance for customers to sit, relax and take time out of their day.
The Little Library, based on an honour system, where everyone is welcome to borrow and share the joy of reading.
