Botany Town Centre recently hosted a Dog Adoption Day in conjunction with DC Rescue Dogs and Auckland Puppy Rescue. Each year, DC Rescue Dogs saves more than 200 dogs from euthanasia in the North Island. The next step is to find these dogs homes so that they continue to live long and happy lives.
The Botany Town Centre Dog Adoption Day is an annual event hosted by the centre which aims to make dog adoption a more accessible and convenient option for people, bringing the puppies to the public. This year, Auckland Puppy Rescue came on board, as well as several pet service suppliers, including pet food and nutrition expert Raw Essentials.
DC Rescue founder Cherie Baker says, “It’s great to see our dogs getting so much love and attention at events like these. It’s a great opportunity for people to see what the dogs are like out and about and amongst crowds. We received so many enquiries for adoption and also foster homes on the day, which is great because the more dogs we find homes for, the more we can rescue. The Dog Adoption Day is such a worthwhile cause, and DC Dogs are grateful to be a part of it every year.”
At the event held last Saturday, both DC Rescue dogs and Auckland Puppy Rescue raised funds to relinquish more dogs from pounds, had plenty of sign-ups to adopt and foster dogs, and donations of toys and bedding. Nearly all dogs from the Adoption Day are set to go on trial this week with their potential new owners.
Tanya Chadha, marketing manager at Botany Town Centre, says, “Initiatives like these are important because they not only bring the community together, but they also open a wider conversation around dog adoption accessibility and education. By hosting this event annually, we are providing the rescue organisations with a public platform to help their pups in need find homes, and teaching the public about the importance of dog adoption. It’s great to see families interacting with the dogs and learning about what the process of rescuing and homing them entails.”
