The Gateway Games have arrived at Cockburn Gateway in time for the July school holidays, with the centre’s younger shoppers challenged to test their sporting skills in a series of fun activities.

From 2nd to 17th July, the Gateway Games is running a free activity zone, featuring five fun games for kids of all ages to get involved in, including basketball, bowling, beanbag toss, skill testers and more. The zone will promote the importance of kids’ involvement in sport, bringing a focus to the joy of childhood sport and the importance of community participation.

Joining in the action is local NBL1 team Cockburn Cougars. The floor will be opening up for kids to go head-to-head with Cockburn Cougars players on Saturday, 9th of July.

Cockburn Gateway Centre Manager, Alexandra McAuliffe said she is excited to have the activation supported by the Cougars and be able to raise awareness of such an important topic in a fun way. “We are looking forward to bringing these fun, free sports activities to Cockburn Gateway this July School Holidays.” she said.

“We’re excited that the local Cockburn Cougars are getting involved and helping to encourage engagement in community and team sports with our youngest shoppers. We look forward to seeing kids of all ages join in the free fun over the two weeks.”

Cockburn Cougars Chief Executive officer Tyrone Thwaites said he is looking forward to getting involved in the activation.

“We know people all over the City of Cockburn and beyond love their basketball – so it only makes sense we partner with Cockburn Gateway to take our Fam on the road these holidays,” he said.

“Our existing Cougar Family, plus everyone else who gets to see our athletes these school holidays, will find out what Cockburn Basketball Association is all about.”

“Combining sport and shopping brings communities together in a pretty unique way, and we look forward to a fun two weeks with Cockburn Gateway and the wider community.”

The Gateway Games zone will be open from 10am-3pm Monday – Saturday, and 11am-3pm on Sundays outside Big W. Entry is free and open to all kids club members.
