South Australians can now shop at a range of city businesses from just one website and have their items delivered to their door the next day, with the launch of byADL, Australia’s first citywide digital marketplace.
byADL.com.au, delivered by the Adelaide Economic Development Agency through the City of Adelaide, brings together more than 60 city retailers with more than 1,800 items for sale on the e-commerce website, with more to come.
Shoppers can visit byADL.com.au, purchase from numerous retailers all in one transaction and receive next-day delivery within 50km of the city. As an introductory offer, from now until 31 December, shipping is FREE on orders over $50. Terms and conditions apply.
French Laundry, Have You Met Charlie, Jam Factory, LOC Bottle Shop, Nowa The Label, Rundle General Store and Miss Gladys Sym Choon are among the retailers selling on the digital marketplace, as 57% of shoppers say they seek to buy local since the pandemic.
These retailers span categories such as fashion, health and beauty, jewellery, homewares, toys, and food and beverage.
For retailers in the CBD and North Adelaide, byADL provides a platform for them to list their products for sale to reach new and more customers, and with Australians purchasing online both more often and across more retailers and categories in recent years, it’s great time to offer a marketplace for people to still shop local when they can’t make it in person.
“From the city to your door, byADL will provide convenient, 24/7 shopping with next-day delivery,” said Ian Hill, Adelaide Economic Development Agency (AEDA) Managing Director.
“We recognise that shoppers can’t always make it in-store, and trends show shoppers are buying online up to once per week, so byADL takes city retailers to them and offers Adelaide’s next biggest shopping destination on their mobile phone or computer. This is a game-changer.
“Consumers expect retail to be omnichannel with more than 50% wanting to look at a product online then buy in-store and more than 50% wanting to look in-store and buy online – they really do want it both ways.
“byADL is Australia’s first citywide digital marketplace, bringing together stores from one geographic area – the CBD and North Adelaide – and offering thousands of their products for sale.
“We are really pleased with the strong interest we’ve had in signing up to byADL, with city retailers keen to join and grow their customer base.
“Stores on byADL are predominantly small businesses and boutiques, many of which have until now relied on shoppers visiting them in-store. Most also have minimal or no online sales presence.
“Not only is shopping on byADL convenient for consumers but buying from byADL will also support the local economy and reduce delivery miles, as all sales are fulfilled from city businesses.”
French Laundry owner Mia Crescitelli has signed up to byADL.com.au to give her Gray Street small business, which does not have an e-commerce website, another revenue stream.
“I am going to have a tablet in the shop purely for byADL.com.au so shoppers can continue to browse more pieces that aren’t on the shop floor,” Crescitelli said. “I love the whole concept. I’ve been telling customers about it and they’re all excited. I’m so happy to be a part of it and hopefully, it brings more people to the shop.”
The Adelaide Economic Development Agency has partnered with South Australian-owned and operated businesses Arcadier (technology) and The Courier App (logistics) to develop and operate byADL.
byADL’s commission fees are just 5% to help fund ongoing maintenance and technical support for sellers, compared to 20% -30% for other digital marketplace platforms. It also integrates with the most commonly used e-commerce platform, Shopify, so retailers who already sell products online can access an additional sales channel and benefit from the byADL marketing campaign activities.
