Vicinity Centres and Perron Group, co-owners of The Glen, today unveiled its new fashion and lifestyle precinct, launching stage 3 of the $460 million redevelopment. The 13,500m2 precinct houses more than 80 new stores including international brands UNIQLO and H&M and new and returning retailers across fashion, accessories, homewares and beauty.
Stage 3 was opened this morning by Vicinity Centres CEO and Managing Director Grant Kelley and Perron Group CEO Ross Robertson. Kelley said: “We are thrilled to see the third stage of the centre’s transformation come to life. The new fashion and lifestyle mall brings together international icons with much-loved Australian retailers in a brand new, contemporary space.”
Kelley said the mall’s design was inspired by the experience and ambience evoked by leading galleries and public places to create a welcoming and modern mall for The Glen’s customers.
“This collection of retailers celebrates the best retail has to offer in a space specifically designed to elevate our customers’ shopping experience. Coupled with our fresh food Market Hall which opened in late 2017, and the new Food Gallery launched in March, The Glen’s transformation towards becoming a market leading destination is well on its way,” Kelley said.
Vicinity partnered with NH Architects and MTRDC interior designers, along with lighting and furniture designers to showcase world-class design elements more commonly seen in luxury residential and leading premium hotel projects.
Robertson added: “The new fashion and lifestyle mall will provide Melbourne’s south east and The Glen’s local community with a new, highly curated and more convenient shopping experience that will better meet our customers’ growing needs.”
Anchored by a 2,500m2 H&M and a 1,200m2 UNIQLO, the new precinct features a new format Target store, the return of local favourite Arena Café in a contemporary new fit-out, a new format Robinsons Bookshop incorporating a café and wine bar, and the arrival of ‘Play along the way’ children’s play zones.
Australian designer Suzie Stanford, illustrator James Gulliver Hancock and artist Carla McRae were each engaged to create large-scale permanent artworks in the new precinct. The opening of a permanent gallery wall in conjunction with local cultural institution Monash Gallery of Art (MGA) will see diverse Australian photographic works exhibited and curated by MGA at The Glen.
Stage One included the bustling fresh food market hall anchored by a new Aldi, new format Woolworths and Coles plus more than 60 food and specialty retailers, with Stage Two opening The Food Gallery, a contemporary dining destination featuring floor to ceiling windows with views towards the Dandenongs and Yarra Valley and 16 casual dining restaurants and cafes.
The Glen is one of Vicinity Centres’ first forays into realising the mixed-use potential of its landholdings, with the sale of the air rights above The Glen to Golden Age to build apartments.
To celebrate the third major milestone of The Glen’s redevelopment, customers and the local community are invited to The Glen’s special ‘The Art of Shopping’ event, running from today until Sunday 4 November, featuring a number of exciting, unique and artistic experiences, retailer celebrations and special offers.
The three-year development which began in March 2017 and is expected to be complete by 2020.
