Mirvac Retail has announced it has begun construction works on a new 5,100m2 entertainment and dining precinct at Toombul. Toombul Shopping Centre as profiled in SCN, has a rich, 50-year history in Brisbane and boasts a convenient location just seven kilometres north of the Brisbane CBD. Mirvac acquired the centre in 2016 and aims to reclaim the centre’s place as a premium retail destination of North Brisbane.
Once complete, Toombul will again premiere a Queensland first, with Archie Brothers Cirque Electriq set to make its state debut at the new lifestyle destination known as UPSTAIRS. The uber fun circus-slash-arcade bar, already hugely popular in Melbourne and Sydney, will headline the dining and entertainment rooftop destination, alongside up to ten foodie offers, with Mirvac investing $35 million in the new precinct.
Art-inspired décor and Insta worthy offerings are all part of the vision for UPSTAIRS at Toombul, which is scheduled for completion in November 2019.
Toombul Centre Manager Melanie Hodge said UPSTAIRS is set to take Brisbane’s suburban food and entertainment scene to a new level with first-of-its-kind experiences planned.
“Toombul is at the epicentre of a rapidly growing and urbanised community in North Brisbane who want entertainment and places to socialise and dine. We have had fantastic customer insights to help us plan and transform this centre for the people of Brisbane over the past few years. UPSTAIRS will deliver Brisbane a new lifestyle destination,” she said.
“Brisbane’s newest dining playground will become a place for people to socialise and be entertained,” Hodge said.
Mirvac Retail’s Head of Development, Narelle Checchin said since acquiring Toombul two years ago Mirvac has delivered on their vision to rejuvenate the centre.
“We’re delighted with the results of the extensive mall refurbishments which have included 44 new or revitalised stores in the fashion and lifestyle categories as well as a refurbished Target, ALDI and Kmart with striking contemporary furniture, fittings and lighting throughout. New outdoor alfresco dining has also been added and car park areas upgraded and expanded undercover.”
“Toombul has established a reputation for bringing new concepts to Queensland with the first in-Centre Petbarn, Bunnings and most recently the first RASHAYS restaurant in the state,” she said.
Toombul was recognised last year for its innovation and redevelopment, picking up gold in the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) Asia Pacific Awards for their Reinventing An Icon marketing campaign. Toombul was awarded gold in one of the International awards’ most prestigious titles – marketing for ‘grand opening, expansion and renovation’. The centre also received the Marketing Excellence Award at the National Shopping Centre Council of Australia Awards and a Judges Commendation at the Property Council of Australia 2018 Queensland Retail Property of the Year Awards for Excellence in Marketing Regional Centres.
