Market City completes its 1909 Dining Precinct

Market City has unveiled a complete 1909 Dining Precinct with two final restaurants – Gojima and Nanyang Tea Club join the stellar line-up of deluxe Asian eateries. Located in the heart of Sydney’s bustling Chinatown, Market City is one of Sydney’s premier retail hubs, housing 115 leading retail brands, specialist stores, Paddy’s Markets and now some of Sydney’s most authentic Asian cuisine under one roof.

Located on level three of the centre, the precinct is now home to the second outpost of the premium sushi burger venture, Gojima. The popular restaurant is neighboured by Nanyang Tea Club, the brainchild of long-time friends Kaisern Ching, of Chef’s Gallery, and Billy Chong’s, Ipoh Town.

Market City Centre Manager, David Yam said the completion of the precinct heralds a new era of dining at Market City, creating a foundation for future developments. “Market City has a strong heritage and reputation for providing both local and international visitors with authentic and vibrant Asian dining. After a much-anticipated refurbishment, we are delighted with the final transformation of 1909 Dining Precinct, which captures the essence of Haymarket while delivering an outstanding day-to-night food experience.”

Translating to ‘South East Asia Tea House’, the 88-seat Nanyang Tea Club is serving up old-world Singaporean and Malaysian dishes, which take inspiration from a bygone era, befitting of its founders’ heritage.

Foodies can tuck into expertly prepared, classic dishes including chilli crab, coconut chicken soup and Nanyang’s signature bak kut teh (pork rib broth), complemented by a selection of colourful tropical mocktails and teas, to truly emphasise the tea-drinking culture of Malaysia and Singapore.

Nanyang Co-Founder, Kaisern Ching said the restaurant’s menu draws on both Chef’s Gallery and Ipoh Town’s cooking styles to deliver a melting pot of flavours that transports diners from Sydney to colonial-era Malaysia. “Malaysian cuisine is truly the original fusion food of the world and we have worked tirelessly to develop a menu, theme and style that stays true to that authenticity, underpinned by excellent service and craftsmanship.”

Life Interior Retail has designed the fit-out, which features rattan furnishing, antique-style finishes and a classic colour palette, complete with a custom-made rickshaw installation where guests can enjoy a drink or afternoon tea.

Meanwhile Burger enthusiasts can head to Gojima for a contemporary taste of Japan to sample the unique range of premium Japanese rice burgers, sides and desserts available for dine-in or takeaway.

The menu features nine rice burgers made with Gojima’s signature Japanese sushi rice and nori bun, as well as tempting sides including Japanese-style southern fried chicken, served with Gojima’s popular special sauce.

In line with the original Gojima, the menu features frozen custards and thickshakes, including chocolate miso, green tea and strawberries and cream.

A Gojima spokesperson said Market City’s 1909 Dining Precinct was the natural choice for the second iteration of Gojima. “We’re excited with how well Gojima has been received and have searched extensively for our second location. Right in the heart of bustling Haymarket, 1909 Dining Precinct is the ideal spot for existing Gojima fans and newcomers alike to experience the offering.”

The final restaurant openings complete the transformation of 1909 Dining Precinct at Market City which is now home to deluxe Asian eateries ranging from premium dine-in to more casual fare. The complete line-up includes Mr Meng Chongqing Gourmet, Yayoi, KOGI, The Eight, Beijing Impression, Fugetsu, Dolar Shop, Nanyang Tea Club and Gojima. 1909 Dining Precinct is open seven days a week until late.
