Romeo’s Retail Group will deliver a new-to-Australia, European-inspired food hall concept to the Sydney CBD, opening its Locali by Romeo’s at Brookfield Place Sydney.

The food hall will anchor the lower concourse retail level within Brookfield Properties’ $2 billion office and retail development at Wynyard in the heart of the city.

Connecting Wynyard Station to George Street, Brookfield Place Sydney comprises a new 27-level office tower, with the revamped precinct set to deliver around 68,000m2 of commercial office space and approx. 6,000m2 of premium retail space.

Bridget Fea, National Retail Director, Brookfield Properties, said: “We are excited to bring style and innovation to what is a completely re-energised Wynyard precinct.”

Wynyard Place will deliver 6,000m2 of high-end retail, a revitalised Wynyard Lane and a major upgrade to the station’s George Street entrance

Locali has leased 1,260m2 on a 10-year lease term with two further five-year options, and will be located on the lower concourse level within the Wynyard rail precinct.

With interiors by Loopcreative, Locali will deliver a contemporary ‘fresh food market’ featuring a walk-in cheese room, fresh butcher and dry ageing room, commercial kitchen, dine-in restaurant, authentic fresh pizza, continental delicatessen, Italian bakery, sushi bar, florist, fish monger and a liquor store – where customers can even try the wine before purchase.

This progressive new food hall will also offer unique in-store activations and experiences for customers such as cooking classes, flower arrangement tutorials, cheese and wine appreciation classes and many other team-building and social activities.

Named ‘Locali’ for the ‘locals’ that it serves, the concept will deliver quality fresh produce and convenience offerings including sandwiches, salads and sushi, and hot pre-prepared meals. Customers can order online to enjoy a fresh, quality meal to eat in or conveniently take away.

Joseph Romeo, Owner and Director of Romeo Retail Group, said: “We are thrilled to finally launch Locali and transform the way Sydney-siders purchase groceries forever. This brand-new European market-feel grocer will deliver a refreshing new experience for Sydney CBD office workers and shoppers alike. Locali brings the beloved traditional Italian grocer to the heart of Wynyard with a modern and stylish twist.”

“We’re so proud of this concept and have chosen to open at Brookfield Place Sydney as the precinct undeniably exhibits innovation and sits within an iconic and historically significant part of the city. With Wynyard being Sydney’s busiest train station, we are excited to cater to the many commuters and create a new sense of community, for as a family-owned business we are truly designed for the locals,” said Joseph Romeo.

Locali will officially open its doors in mid-2021 with the broader mixed-use precinct set to complete within months.

Brookfield’s Wynyard Place in Sydney will integrate public space with fluid connections

Brookfield Place Sydney sits within the prestigious family of Brookfield Place destinations globally and is set to deliver Sydney an exciting new precinct that attracts people from all parts of the city.

Designed in collaboration by Make Architects and Architectus, Brookfield Place Sydney will transform Wynyard into a world-class urban precinct in the heart of Sydney’s CBD.

The project’s centrepiece is PCA Premium Grade commercial tower (10 Carrington Street) with a total net lettable area of 59,000m2 over 27 levels, offering world-class facilities, amenities and finishes.

The development includes the restoration of Shell House and 285 George Street, breathing new life into a historic Sydney landmark.
