In March 2008, at the inaugural Big Guns Lunch in Sydney, we presented the first SCN Award for a centre that had reached an MAT of $1 billion! It was a huge achievement and Chadstone took the honours. At the time, Westfield Bondi Junction came in 2nd place with an MAT of $900 million, and the total MAT for the Top 10 Big Guns, the most powerful centres in Australia had a combined MAT of $7.6 billion.

It’s 2018 and this is our Big Guns Issue – exactly 10 years on from the first $1 billion award. Today we show five centres with a billion-dollar turnover; the next three centres trade above $900 million and the last two are over $800 million.

In 2008, total MAT of the Top 10 centres was $7.6 billion; today it’s $10.8 billion – that’s an increase of some 43%!

Hi Michelle, Indooroopilly Shopping Centre had just changed owners last year when the survey was due and didn't submit their figures. They should be included in the 2019 report. SCN
