Cairns Central celebrated 20 years on August 26, hosting a family fun day with free kids’ entertainment, prizes, giveaways and of course birthday cake to celebrate its 20th birthday.
NAIDOC National Artist of the Year 2017, Elverina Johnson, and the Briscoe sisters entertained the crowds, and local historian Col Walters displayed his detailed model of Cairns in the early days.
Cairns Central Centre Manager Christie-Lee Jackson said the centre was thrilled to be celebrating this milestone with its customers.
“The 20th birthday celebration is one small way of saying thank you to everyone who has contributed to the success of the centre since 1997. The retailers and the people who work at Cairns Central make the centre such a valuable part of the community,” she said.
The celebration was also the public launch of the Cairns Central Community Trail, with a photo exhibition displayed centrewide. In conjunction with Cairns Museum, the Cairns Central Community Trail takes visitors on a journey down memory lane, showcasing some of Cairns’ greatest landmarks, the natural history of the region and capture the unique spirit of the community.
