Again, the cream of the industry gathered for the annual Big Guns Lunch at Sydney’s Establishment Hotel in the CBD. As is customary, the CEOs of the major shopping centre companies in Australia each gave a short presentation on the State of the Industry as they saw it.
There was strong retailer representation this year and, as usual, the national press was out in full force with the Big Guns issue and the CEO presentations providing the lead story in the property sections the following day in the Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian and The Australian Financial Review.
Vicinity’s Chadstone took out the SCN Award for the country’s highest MAT for 2017 with a staggering $1.9 billion. Mirvac’s Broadway held on to the Number 1 spot for MAT/m2 with a stunning $14,545 and Scentre Group’s Westfield Sydney took out the Specialty MAT/m2 with the terrestrial $22,194!
GPT’s Highpoint became the 5th centre in Australia to achieve the $1 billion mark in MAT; Vanessa Orth, GPT’s Head of Retail was presented with the SCN $1.0 billion Commemorative Award.
A great event that sadly, as always, finished too soon! It was great ‘catch-up’ event for the movers and shakers of our industry.
