The store was officially opened with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by GPT CEO Bob Johnston, Woolworths Holdings CEO Ian Moir, David Jones CEO David Thomas, chef Neil Perry AM and the Lord Mayor of Wollongong Gordon Bradbery OAM.

Wollongong Central also welcomed the opening of the Illawarra’s first Mecca Maxima store and entry of retail and food brands including T2, Peter Alexander, Review and Espresso Warriors into the refurbished Gateway Building.

The Gateway Building refurbishment completes a substantial retail remix of Wollongong Central after welcoming several leading retail brands over the past year, including TK Maxx, Anaconda, a new-format Rebel and the Illawarra’s first H&M.
