On March 9, south-west Sydney’s premier shopping centre, Macarthur Square opened its $240-million retail redevelopment. Lendlease along with joint owners APPF Retail and the GPT Wholesale Shopping Centre Fund were joined by David Jones CEO John Dixon and Ambassador Jessica Gomes, representatives from Campbelltown City Council, including Mayor George Brticevic, and guests for the VIP event and ribbon-cutting ceremony before opening its doors to hundreds of interested locals.

The redevelopment transforms the centre from a GLA of 94,300m2 to approximately 107,000m2, with more than 300 specialty stores, a new-format David Jones across two levels, H&M and a western expansion with a new-look Coles, fresh food market hall, an alfresco and casual dining precinct, along with 500 additional car spaces.

Lendlease Head of Retail Gary Horwitz said the Next Generation Macarthur Square responds to the changing nature of shopping centres while acknowledging the centre’s strong history and connection to the region.

“Our customers have told us they want to visit a world-class shopping centre without having to travel to the city. The centre’s design and retail mix reflects the natural environment and tastes of the region, while customer aspirations are brought to life with an exciting range of popular fashion brands anchored by David Jones and H&M,” said Horwitz.

David Jones CEO John Dixon said “we’re excited to bring our internationally awarded design concept to David Jones Macarthur Square, offering discerning local customers a truly world-class shopping experience.”

The design and retail mix successfully connects with the local sensibilities of the region delivering a lasting legacy for the next generation of customers.
