On Thursday 30 November, Woolworths opened the doors to a brand-new local supermarket and cafe in North Ashfield, providing a new fresh food experience, convenient shopping options and value for the local community.
The Ashfield store located at 202 Parramatta Road, features a full line Woolworths supermarket, two levels of car parking, a cafe kiosk and a brand new six bay direct to boot service. Customers will also notice a vibrant, unique piece of art created by local Ashfield artist, Georgia Hill.
Customers will be able to choose from an extensive range of Australian fruit and vegetables, 100% Australian meat from Aussie farmers and a great variety of fresh seafood at the fish counter. Also on offer will be fresh stone baked breads and pastries from the full production bakery.
The 4,000m2 supermarket will employ up to 200 new team members and will also focus on wellness and healthy-living products, such as Woolworths’ own Macro Wholefoods Market brand that includes free range and organic choices.
Woolworths Director of Property Development, Andrew Loveday was joined by the Mayor of Inner West City Council, Darcy Byrne and Jo Haylen MP, Member for Summer Hill and Minister for Transport to mark the official opening.
Andrew Loveday said: “We’re delighted to be opening our doors for the residents of Ashfield and a number of surrounding suburbs.
“Locals will have a high-quality, convenient and sustainable shopping experience available at their doorstep that meets the needs of their growing and evolving community.
“This development is an important part of our ongoing investment to, not only the residents of Ashfield but also the Inner West area, and we look forward to servicing the community for decades to come,” said Loveday.
Jo Haylen MP said: “This store will be a really welcome addition for Ashfield and the rest of the Inner West.
“With 750 solar panels on the roof, EV chargers in the carpark and a commitment from Woolworths to eliminate food waste, it’s a store that reflects the community it now serves.”
Sustainability features of the new store include 750 solar panels, trolleys made from recycled materials and a state of the art refrigeration system to reduce energy use. It also promotes more sustainable transport through the implementation of EV chargers and cycle bays.
Other features include a new Direct to Boot service, where customers place their grocery orders online then simply confirm when they’ve arrived in one of six marked bays via the Woolworths app or SMS link to notify the store team, who then pack the order directly in the boot with no additional charge.
On Wednesday 6 December, Woolworths is set to open a new neighbourhood Metro store located at 731-741 Military Road, which will mirror the look and feel of the existing heritage buildings of Mosman, as the two-storey shop front has been restored to its former glory to complement the high street atmosphere.
Twenty car spaces will accompany the 453m2 store, which achieves a 4-star Green Star rating through its reuse of materials including recycled brickwork, existing timber and leadlight windows.
Loveday said: “The development of our new Mosman Metro store has been quite a journey, as we began our desire to develop a high-quality shopping experience tailored to the residents of Mosman.
“It was vital for us to remain within the existing village feel and streetscape that greets the community and its visitors every day – and we feel we’ve achieved that.
“We’re delighted to officially open for trade next week, and look forward to meeting the evolving needs of the Mosman community.
A number of pedestrian enhancements are also included in the build, including a through site link taking pedestrians safety from Military Road through to Gouldsbury Street, alongside the construction of a footpath that also connects Military Road to the existing Council car park on Lennon Lane.
The state-of-the-art Metro store is stocked with a strong Australian fresh fruit and vegetable offer, quick and easy dinner ranges and products perfect for entertaining. This is backed by a great range of everyday essentials for a grocery shop tailored to meet the needs of the local community.
Leading the team is Juliany Wijaya, who has worked at Woolworths for more than 18 years. As store manager, Juliany has been working with the team over the last few weeks to help prepare the store.
“My team and I are excited to hit the ground running and offer local residents a new and high-quality shopping experience.
“A huge part of the journey to open our new store has been welcoming 50 new team members, including one third from across the local community.”
Opening hours for Woolworths Metro Mosman are 7am – 10pm Mon-Sat, and 8am – 10pm on Sunday, which will have its first day of trade on Wednesday 6 December.
