Tweed Mall’s $6 million (approx.) redevelopment of its Northern Mall was officially opened today.  In line with the first day trade of the new ALDI Supermarket, the Tweed Shires Mayor, Cr. Katie Milne officially opened the Northern Mall re-development precinct at 8.30am – Wednesday 21 August.

Tweed Mall is a single level sub-regional shopping centre located near the Queensland border, only 4km from the Gold Coast International Airport. Tweed Mall is anchored by Coles and Woolworths supermarkets, as well as Target and now welcomes the additional ALDI anchor. The centre first opened in 1973 and is now home to 70 specialty retailers and 943 carparks.

Tweed Mall is owned by Elanor Retail Property Fund (ASX:ERF), an externally-managed listed real estate investment fund investing in Australian retail property. The fund invests in high investment quality, non-discretionary retail-based neighbourhood and sub-regional shopping centres. The centre is managed by RetPro.

“Elanor Investors Group are thrilled to have partnered with ALDI to deliver a much anticipated new store to the northern precinct of Tweed Mall. We look forward to further reconnecting this strategic asset with the local community by partnering with the Tweed Shire Council to progress our proposed future repositioning and asset management initiatives”, said Matt Healy, Head of Retail.

Tweed Mall officially opens with a new ALDI supermarket

Centre Manager, John Weaver said, “With the introduction of ALDI, Tweed Mall will be the only shopping centre in the primary trade area offering all three major supermarkets under one roof, on one retail level, with ample convenient customer parking”.

“Tweed Mall is about convenience and engagement with the local community. We offer a relaxed atmosphere which aligns with our coastal lifestyle of people living and working in and around the Tweed Heads and the Southern Gold Coast regions.” said Weaver.

Tweed Mall is loved by locals

About 250 customers patiently waited for ALDI to open its doors at 8.30am this morning. Tweed Mall presented the first ALDI customer, Chloe of Tweed Heads, with a $100 gift card. The first 50 customers waiting in line also received a Tweed Mall shopping cooler bag filled with items donated by retailers, valued at $150 each.

Mainbrace Constructions were responsible for the base build of the new ALDI supermarket.

The celebrations will continue with a Grand Opening Family Event taking place on Saturday 24 August 2019, featuring free activities centre-wide, including Nickelodeon’s PAW Patrol meet and greets, free donut decorating workshops and herb potting. Face painting, balloon twisting and lots of free giveaways including centre and retailer gift cards.
