On Thursday 1 and Friday 2 December, South Eveleigh will host its inaugural Open Air Artist Markets in Innovation Plaza on Locomotive Street.
From midday-8pm each day, visitors can buy wares from established and emerging contemporary artists, enjoy live DJ music, and food and drink offerings from the eateries and restaurants on Locomotive Street.
National Manager, Portfolio Management Joanna Corrick said “We are very excited to kick off the festive season with our first South Eveleigh Artist Markets. It’s the perfect opportunity for workers within the precinct and locals to enjoy the good weather, great retail offerings and find something unique and sustainable to gift friends and family this Christmas.”
Participating are artists from Studio A, Katy B Plummer, Nicole Barakat, Lionel Bawden, Penny Cross, Kieran Butler, Jesse Hogan, Szymon Dorabialski, and Audrey Newton. The markets are an opportunity to meet artists with varying practices and perspectives. From the celebrated team at Studio A, a social enterprise that tackles the barriers faced by artists with intellectual disability, to artists work that is rooted in cultural and ancestral practices, to wearable artworks that celebrate sexual and gender freedom and diversity.
Available wares include Lional Bawden’s TEXT t-shirts (hand-drawn and hand cut stencils), Catherine McGuiness’s acrylic and posca paintings, and Kieran Butler’s digitally-printed wearables. Explore a selection of jewellery, wreaths, drawings, paintings, posters, artist books and publications from these local artists.
DJ Kombi & Co will play music over both days, while Whitton will host one of their limited ‘Thirsty Thursday’ November happy hours from 4-6pm on December 1.
Among the food offerings from the precinct’s much-loved restaurants – Eat Fuh, Fishbowl, Lucky Kwong, Pepper Seeds Boutique Thai Bites, and Re – BrewDog South Eveleigh will also activate their new venue for the first time on December 2, with special projections displayed on the facade of the historic Locomotive Workshop to speak to the heritage of the site.
BrewDog South Eveleigh will be located within the iconic Locomotive Workshop of the historic South Eveleigh precinct and marks the first-ever NSW venue of their partnership with Australia’s leading pub operator Australian Venue Co. (AVC). To celebrate the new opening, BrewDog South Eveleigh is giving the first 200 customers through the door the chance to win free beer for a year and will announce the lucky winner on opening night.
