Out-of-home media solutions specialists, Shopper Media today announced its increased support for Clean Up Australia, signing on as a key media partner for this year’s Step Up To Clean Up campaign.

Shopper Media CEO Ben Walker says, “Shopper Media has been a media supporter for Clean Up Australia for the past four years, but like our business, we recognised that we needed to grow our efforts.”

“We are so lucky to live in a country like Australia. The Step Up to Clean Up campaign serves as a valuable reminder that we need to work together to preserve our environment and reduce our waste all year round to achieve a cleaner, healthier and more sustainable environment.”

As a key media partner, Shopper Media will air the Step Up to Clean Up campaign across its national inventory of Smartlite panels, delivering a media value in excess of $1 million throughout 2020.

“With a portfolio of more than 360 retail centres across the country, reaching more than 10.8 million Australians a month, we recognised that we are uniquely positioned to mobilise the Step Up to Clean Up campaign. By engaging with Australian shoppers and inspiring them at a local level we can build awareness and encourage everyone to step up to clean up”, he said.

“Reaching consumers as they shop, the Step Up to Clean Up campaign will act as a powerful prompt to Australians to make better purchasing decisions when it comes to packaging, as well as remind them to responsibly dispose of their rubbish when they get home,” added Walker.

Australians currently create about 2.5 million tonnes of plastic waste every year, with coffee and other hot beverage cups estimated to be the second-largest contributor to litter after plastic bottles. According to BioPak, up 90% of single-use hot beverage cups end up in landfill – equating to about 60 tonnes of plastic waste each year. Shopper Media has committed to providing reusable coffee cups for its staff, and will host two company Clean Up events across its Sydney and Melbourne offices.

Clean Up Australia MD and CEO Terrie-Ann Johnson, says, “The Step Up to Clean Up campaign is encouraging Australians and businesses to rise to the challenge of protecting their local environment – not just for one day but every day.”

“Australian businesses like Shopper Media are positioning themselves as role models in the community as they take action and play an increasingly important role in caring for the environment. Change starts by stepping up to make difference, and we’re thrilled to have their increased support.”
