Scentre Group today announced it would welcome ALDI to its WA portfolio for the first time, with the low-cost supermarket confirmed to open stores at Westfield Whitford City and Westfield Stirling from next year.
Scentre Group currently has 18 ALDI supermarkets in its Westfield living centre platform across NSW, Victoria and Queensland, with the expansion into Westfield Whitford City and Westfield Stirling in WA bringing the total number to 20.
Caroline MacPhail, ALDI Managing Director, Western Australia said: “ALDI Australia is proud to call ourselves “Good Different”. Since opening our first stores in Western Australia in 2016, we have grown to operate 41 stores and have further plans for expansion, including the opening of our first Westfield ALDI stores in Western Australia.
“Once open, we look forward to offering shoppers at Westfield Whitford City and Westfield Stirling a supermarket experience that is like no other in Australia,” she said.
The $830 million development of Westfield Stirling is due to commence in Q3 this year and will see the centre more than double in size with around 368 retailers upon completion.
ALDI is expected to open at Westfield Whitford city in early 2020.
Scentre Group Regional Manager, Western Australia, Chris Barton, said: “We’re pleased to be bringing ALDI to our WA portfolio, which is an area of growth and investment for us.
“We’re dedicated to curating a retail mix for each of our living centres that caters to the needs and wants of the local community. The addition of ALDI supermarkets at Westfield Stirling and Whitford City will allow us to bring our customers more choice and even better access to affordable, quality groceries.”
ALDI Australia opened its first stores in January 2001. Today, there are more than 540 stores across Australia. ALDI’s high-quality products, outstanding value and good different offering has made it one of the leading supermarkets in the country.
In a 2018 report commissioned by PwC, it was found that ALDI has made a total contribution to GDP of almost $23 billion since entering the Australian market. The report also found that ALDI saves its shoppers $2.2 billion per year compared to shopping at national competitors.
