Rundle Mall has strengthened its reputation as a food and drinks destination, with eight new hospitality businesses opening in the shopping precinct in just the first six months of 2024.

These exciting new additions have contributed to strong growth in customer spending and an uptick in visitation.

“In just six months this year we’ve already seen eight new hospitality businesses open in Rundle Mall, let alone the rest of the city” said Andrew White, Adelaide Economic Development Agency’s Executive Manager, Rundle Mall.

Last year, the number of restaurants, cafes, bars and takeaway outlets in the City of Adelaide, including Rundle Mall, grew by about 8%, with 12 new openings in 2023.

“Food and wine plays a significant role in shaping our city’s culture and is integral to making Rundle Mall a destination not just for shoppers, but for visitors, residents and city workers,” said White.

“Economically, the hospitality sector is growing year on year both in terms of patron spending.

“In June 2024, customer spend increased 25% in Rundle Mall’s restaurants, and 12% in takeaway and fast food outlets.

“With spending high, and customers showing a strong appetite for food and wine options, there’s significant opportunities for hospitality businesses to expand into Rundle Mall, add to our food and wine offering and contribute to the Mall’s growing night-time economy.

“We know visitors, shoppers and city workers love to try new things, and that’s backed up by our foot traffic data.

“We saw a 15% increase in visitors to James Place on the day Bottega Bandito opened last month, when compared to the same day the week before,” said White.
