The first week of September doesn’t just mark the arrival of Spring and the start of a new month on the Gold Coast, it also signals the return of one very special initiative that is encouraging locals to wear scrub hats for kids in hospital.

QICGRE’s Robina Town Centre has joined forces with the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation to roll out its annual fundraising campaign, Scrub Up September, which is set to raise much-needed funds to help local sick kids of all ages with life threatening illnesses in hospital.

Running for the entire month of September, Robina Town Centre will unveil a dedicated Scrub Up September wall near Sephora which will become a focal point for the initiative within the Robina community; a symbol of hope, love and support.

The 7.5 metre wall features some of the fearless and friendly faces who make up our hospital heroes and, with the help of generous locals, will be transformed into a heart-warming wall of wishes, providing a much-needed morale boost for sick children in hospital, their families and the healthcare heroes who care for them.

Locals can get behind the cause by purchasing a $2 token from the Scrub Up September volunteers (just look for the ‘scrub hats’!) between 11am and 2pm daily.

General Manager of Robina Town Centre, Kathleen Hart, commented, “We are extremely proud to partner with the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation and come on board for this very special Scrub Up September initiative.

“This is such an important cause and we encourage all locals to buy a token whilst visiting the centre, write their message of support and add it to the wall of wishes as a display of unity and strength from the community for those doing it tough.

“Not only will the initiative help to raise vital funds for medical equipment, world-class research and interactive play and sensory areas in local hospitals, it will also shine a light on the incredible healthcare heroes and frontline staff who work tirelessly to care for our community and provide essential health and support services for those in need,” said Hart.

Gold Coast Hospital Foundation Chief Executive Officer Ben Cox said the one in three Gold Coast kids who need the city’s public hospitals every year need help now more than ever.

“The COVID-19 pandemic has not stopped Gold Coast kids getting sick or needing medical treatment,” he said.

“Our healthcare heroes on our Children’s wards have been treating patients right throughout this year and we are so thankful for Robina Town Centre and all our Scrub Up September participants getting on board to wear a scrub hat and raise much-needed funds for our kids in hospital.” said Cox.

A number of Robina Town Centre retailers are pledging their support to the cause, including Earth Markets who has been a champion of the Scrub Up September initiative for a number of years, raising over $14,000 in 2019. Tokens can also be purchased from Earth Markets, in addition to the Scrub Up September stand near Sephora.
