This August, for the second consecutive year, QIC presents its national Jobs Fair initiative offering prospective candidates the opportunity to access more than 2,500 potential local jobs from more than 90 interested retail and brands ahead of the busy Christmas retail period.

The QIC Jobs Fair will provide a wide range of full-time, part-time, and casual positions across the retail spectrum, encompassing national fashion and lifestyle brands, as well as local food and beverage vendors. McDonald’s, Myer, Sephora, Pandora, Endota Spa and HOYTS are some of the big-name retailers that have expressed interest in taking part this year.

Last year’s Jobs Fair successfully supported more than 100 retailers and reached nearly 20,000 job seekers. This year’s event strives to further forge connections between candidates and employers.

Stephen Dewaele, General Manager of Shopping Centres for QIC Real Estate, said, “Following the tremendous success of last year’s event, we’re thrilled to see this year’s Jobs Fair expand across our portfolio to assist individuals looking for work, with 19 centres participating in the initiative across Australia.”

“Right now, the retail sector has over 32,000 job vacancies, and we hope the QIC Jobs Fair helps alleviate the pressures faced by both retailers and prospective job seekers as we approach the busy Christmas period, one of the most significant times in the retail calendar,” said Dewaele.

Recent research indicates that almost one million Australians are working multiple jobs, a 10% increase compared to 2022. Monthly hours worked have also risen significantly, with Australians now working over 1.9 million hours per month. This trend may be attributed to the rising cost of living, as Living Cost Indexes have increased by 9.6% over the past twelve months.

“Considering the current conditions, the QIC Jobs Fair serves as a timely platform for local jobseekers to engage directly with businesses operating within our centres, offering genuine employment prospects as well as valuable in-person learning experiences. There’s never been a better time to connect with some of Australia’s most popular brands, and there is always the prospect of an exciting long-term career,” Dewaele continued.

In a first for QIC, the upcoming Jobs Fair will feature Feros Care as a key partner across a select number of centres, expanding its reach to include recruitment support for the care and disability services. Feros Care, renowned for its comprehensive range of aged care and disability support, is launching a major recruitment drive in the industry. Joining the 2023 Jobs Fair program, Feros Care aims to source passionate candidates nationwide to meet the increasing demand and ensure the sector thrives with skilled professionals.

Dedicated spaces for face-to-face interviews will be available at most events and candidates are encouraged to register in advance through individual centre websites. Walk-in candidates will also be considered on an individual basis, and smaller centres will set up ‘pop-up’ kiosks to address recruitment inquiries. To ensure accessibility, a virtual job board will be available for candidates who are unable to attend in-person interviews.

The QIC Jobs Fair will run from August 8 through to September 16.
