We have seen a wave of digital native retailers trialing their businesses in the physical space; The Daily Edit, Catch of the Day and even Amazon, to name a few. This week, Qantas Frequent Flyer launches its first ‘bricks-and-mortar’ store in Melbourne’s Domestic Terminal One – the Frequent Flyer Rewards Room, giving members the opportunity to earn Qantas Points for window shopping; use points on purchases in-store; and learn more about the program.

Members can earn 100 Qantas Points just for walking into the retail space and providing their Qantas Frequent Flyer details. Members can also earn six points per dollar spent in-store when they pay for their purchases with their credit or debit card and can ‘double dip’ if they use a Qantas Points-earning credit card, earning points on their items and on their card. Alternatively, Frequent Flyers can use points or Points Plus Pay.

Qantas Loyalty CEO, Olivia Wirth said,“Qantas Frequent Flyers love earning and using points when they shop and the Rewards Room gives members travelling through Melbourne a new retail experience where they can enjoy exclusive retail rewards simply for being a member.

We know our members love to shop, so we expect the ‘points for window shopping’ will encourage our customers to visit the store to talk to one of our experts about how they can make the most of their membership or indulge in some retail therapy.”

“Melbourne is one of the busiest airport terminals in our network – and the city has a reputation for being Australia’s shopping capital – so it made sense to choose Melbourne for our first airport store.” she said

The Frequent Flyer Rewards Room stocks a range popular items, such as noise cancelling headphones from Bose, the latest Fitbit and Lego sets, as well as Qantas merchandise including luggage, branded baby onesies and Qantas kids uniforms. Customers can either take the items they purchase with them or have bulkier items delivered at a later date.

There is also an ‘Experience zone’ where program partner Dyson will be offering Supersonic Hair Dryer demonstrations, giving members a fresh look before they fly or head home.

For members wanting to find out more about how to increase their points earning potential and make the most of their rewards, the Frequent Flyer Rewards Room will have staff on hand to provide top tips and ideas on ways to earn and use points.

The Rewards Room will be open seven days a week from 7am to 8pm ending 30 June.
