Precision Group, owner and manager of $1.2 billion of retail and commercial property in Australia and New Zealand, have entered into an agreement with Autonomous Energy to install an 824kW Solar System, as part of the $45 million redevelopment of Port Adelaide Plaza.
Port Adelaide Plaza is a new and vibrant shopping Centre, 11 kilometers northwest of the Adelaide CBD and home to some of Australia’s favourite retailers – ALDI, Coles, Kmart, Liquorland, Australia Post, Bendigo Bank and Terry White Chemmart, providing a new level of convenience for Port Adelaide and surrounding suburbs.
Precision Group have identified their electricity usage as the most important contributor to their total greenhouse gas emissions. The 824kW solar system consists of 2,030 ‘SunPower panels which are the most deployed shingled solar panel in the world.
The installation on the centres rooftop will span approximately 5,000m2 in area, which is equal to nine full size tennis courts. The power generated from the solar panels will provide around 50% of the total electricity requirement at Port Adelaide Plaza for base building services, lighting, lifts and air-conditioning.
The Port Adelaide Plaza system will reduce Co2 emissions by 962 tonnes per annum, divert the equivalent of 38,000 bags of garbage from going to landfill each year, and avoid burning 37,000 litres of petrol per annum.
In confirming the agreement with Autonomous Energy, Trevor Dill, Chief Operating Officer Precision Group said “Because we own and manage our assets, we are not only focused on the operational requirements, we also understand the importance of strategic thinking and investing in our assets for today and tomorrow. We’re an innovative company that builds unrivalled partnerships. The partnership with Autonomous Energy at Port Adelaide Plaza will deliver measurable and long-lasting results.”
Minister for Energy and Mining, Dan Van Holst Pellekaan said “The installation of rooftop solar panels at Port Adelaide Plaza supports the South Australian Government’s plan to make energy in South Australia more affordable, more secure and cleaner and adds to South Australia’s already impressive range of renewable energy projects underway.”
The solar project, which is part of the 11,000m2 expansion taking Port Adelaide Plaza’s development to about 26,500m2 with more than 50 specialty retail stores and services on completion, is expected to commence in October 2019 and be operational in February 2020 creating employment for eight engineering, installation and project management persons.
