Supermarket dynamo ALDI, officially opens its doors today, Wednesday 18 August as the supermarket anchor tenant along with Woolworths Metro at The Grand Eastlakes, the new $1 billion master-planned community being developed by Crown Group.

The new ALDI takes a larger floor plate at 1,600m2 (rather than 1,500m2) which is now standard across all new ALDI stores. ALDI is the first of 15 retailers to open this month, with all other retailers opening progressively throughout September.

Other retailers opening throughout August include a Woolworths Metro, Instyle Hairdressing, SP Mobile, Ausome Nails, Hatch Espresso, Wholelife Pharmacy, Reni’s Car Wash and an Australia Post/Newsagency outlet.

Crown Group’s Chair and Group CEO, Iwan Sunito said: “ALDI’s opening marks a significant milestone for the development with the completion of the retail precinct.”

“This will be followed by the completion of the residential component of Stage One of The Grand Residences later this year which has been under construction since 2018.

Crown Group is leading the transformation of Eastlakes with the emergence of ‘the new East’

“We are delighted that ALDI, in a refreshed format and larger size, is the first retailer to open at Eastlakes’ spectacularly designed, state-of-the-art shopping centre.

“Designed by retail architecture specialists, fjmt, The Grand Eastlakes will feature a curved wooden ceiling in keeping with the curved features of the entire development. We welcome all of the community to come in and enjoy this stunning new retail precinct,” Sunito said.

“We’re excited to bring something new and fresh to the shopping experience, especially for the Eastlakes and surrounding eastern suburbs’ communities.”

Sunito noted this expanded ALDI floorplate is one of the many features that shoppers can get excited about when choosing to shop at The Grand Eastlakes, in addition to the creative and sophisticated design of this entire retail district.

“The opening of The Grand Eastlakes and Residences breathes new life and the beginning of ‘the new east’ which we are delighted to be delivering for the local community which has been much in need of revitalisation and modernising,” he said.

Stage 2: The Grand Shopping Centre
The Grand Eastlakes will provide a complimentary offering to the existing 1960’s-built Eastlakes Shopping Centre, which is still currently operating and when redeveloped will be known as The Grand Shopping Centre.

Future retail, Stage 2

The new sprawling 13,000m2, ultra-modern, three-level retail and dining precinct, with interiors by highly regarded architecture firm, Buchan in collaboration with fjmt, is set to transform the area into a vibrant, bustling, and appealing destination. A new town centre including a proposed medical centre, childcare centre and public library will be at the heart of the development as well as wide of range of new cafés and restaurants offering alfresco dining overlooking the adjacent parklands.

This will set a new standard for retail excellence for the area with up to 65 specialty stores and two major supermarkets reflecting the cultural diversity of the neighbourhood, a restaurant promenade, street cafés, densely landscaped gardens and children’s play areas.

The Stage One shopping centre will sit below a residential component where 133 apartments will soon be completed, spanning three buildings on the north side of the development.

A second residential and retail precinct offering 65 or more stores and dining outlets will start construction next year.
