To celebrate Mums in all their guises, Vicinity Centres’ Queen Victoria Building (QVB) in Sydney’s CBD is featuring an exhibition of artworks showcasing quotes from inspiring Australian women. Mum’s the Word; the Exhibition, will showcase motherhood in all of its truths – real and raw.
Launching on Thursday, 9 May, with a free event for the public, the Mum’s the Word exhibition will unite the beauty of art with the authenticity of motherhood – from the tantrums to the tears, to the love and laughter.
The exhibition has been curated to celebrate the diverse mothering roles now prevalent in Australia, whether that be women from a traditional family dynamic, a step-mum, same-sex couple mums or grandmothers.
Robyn Wilson, Marketing Manager at the QVB states that the event was developed to support and champion the diverse range of mums that visit the building every day.
“In today’s society motherhood takes many shapes and forms. Every day at the QVB we serve all kinds of mums, and we want to use this opportunity to celebrate that diversity, with a fun night out that’s centred around those real motherhood moments they all share,” said Wilson.
The launch event will be set underneath QVB’s majestic dome, and will include a stand-up performance by comedian – and mum – Jean Kittson alongside bespoke workshops from some of the building’s most indulgent retailers.
Notable figures such as Paralympian Jessica Smith and TV presenter Yumi Stynes, alongside the inspirational Bronwyn Bancroft have all penned an honest depiction of their experiences to be included in the exhibition.
Maryam Mounajed is one of the inspiring women whose words are set be displayed during the exhibition, showcasing her quote “Motherhood is difficult, overwhelming and sometimes filled with doubt but all it takes is that one little smile, or that sticky finger cuddle to remind one of its beauty.”
Bespoke retailer offerings will include an aromatherapy workshop with Perfect Potion and a haircare Masterclass with Aveda – which guests will be able to enjoy whilst sipping on a glass of Mumm Champagne.
The event will run during the QVB’s late night Thursday trading hours, offering guests the opportunity to pick up last minute Mother’s Day gifts from retailers such as Country Road, Mecca, Gorman, Camilla and Saba; or enjoy a meal at Reign or Esquire, two of the building’s newest dining additions.
Following the launch event on Thursday, 9 May, the exhibition will remain open on Level 2 until Sunday, 12 May.
