MUJI, the masters of minimalism, are set to expand their Chadstone offering with the Japanese retailer announcing plans to relocate from their original Chadstone store. The much anticipated expansion and relocation of its Chadstone store comes as MUJI Australia continues its rapid growth plans down under. MUJI will unveil the new store this coming August, with a floor space of over 1,700m2 making it the largest MUJI store in Australia.
Located on the Lower Ground Level near the Shopping Centre’s newly renovated ‘Food Atrium’, the store will boast an array of household furniture items new to the Australian market, along with MUJI’s signature minimalist clothing for men, women and children, skincare, stationery, bedding and travel goods.
The new concept store will offer customers an opportunity to explore, experience and immerse themselves in the iconic Japanese retailer. These experiences will include MUJI Books, MUJI Labo – a new garment capsule range, an embroidery service, a dedicated kid’s play area, Melbourne to Go concept featuring things to do in Melbourne, and self-serve coffee facility. The most important element to the new store will be Open MUJI, which is where workshops and exhibitions will take place, and is ultimately the ‘heart’ of the store and the centrepiece to the experience.
MUJI Australia’s Managing Director Mr Takeshi Fujimoto added that Australian consumers have taken to the brand’s venture into Australia well, referring to the strong increase in sales over the last 5
and half years, buoyed by the ever-expanding desire of the Australian customer to experience more than just a retail store in their shopping pursuits.
“We’ve received a very positive response from the local market since we opened our first store in Chadstone back in 2013, and we’re incredibly excited to continue to grow our presence within Australia with this new offering. It will provide shoppers with a unique Japanese MUJI experience through our increased product range, new store design to this market, and the inclusion of such elements such as Open MUJI. All this combined will make for a truly MUJI feeling,” shared Takeshi.
“We look forward to further developing and sharing our brand concepts with our valued Australian customers and are thrilled to showcase the new Chadstone retail space,” added Takeshi.
MUJI was founded in 1980 and opened its first Australian store in 2013. The Japanese retailer currently has five locations across Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra with plans to continue to expand its Australian footprint further.
Doors will open at the end of August 2019 and will offer a number of special offers and limited-edition offerings to celebrate this exciting moment for MUJI in Australia.
