On Monday 4 March, Macarthur Square’s Kellicar Lane was filled with the men and women of Macarthur Square, standing together as equals doing the ‘hands out pose’ for the International Women’s Day initiative #balanceforbetter campaign. A selection of retailers, centre management, security and cleaning staff gathered together to create a photo moment that would kick off the celebrations surrounding International Women’s Day in the centre.

International Women’s Day (IWD) is celebrated around the world on the 8th of March and is a day to celebrate the social, economic, cultural and political achievement of women and to reflect on how far we have come and how far we still have to go to truly achieve gender equality. The Macarthur Square initiative aims to make a difference for the women of the Macarthur community, determined to build a gender-balanced world.

An online video campaign has been created to celebrate and draw attention to the hard-working and inspiring women of Macarthur Square “Women of Macarthur” who were profiled in a series of videos to be shared with the community.
An internal call to action was distributed, inviting all women from Macarthur Square to participate in the video series. They could either self-nominate or be nominated by colleagues. A diverse range of women were selected, some of which have worked at the centre for more than a decade.
On Friday 8th March, a free morning tea will be open to the public to celebrate International Women’s Day and is an opportunity for the community to network and celebrate alongside the hardworking individuals at Macarthur Square.
