Kiwi Property, owner of Northlands Shopping Centre in Christchurch, has unveiled its new dining destination – Langdons Quarter, serving up a selection of great dining options in an exceptional new development. In line with food trends, the precinct will be open later everyday until 7pm (9pm on Thursday and Friday) to catch the commuter traffic as well as restaurants trading later.
The name, Langdons Quarter, is a nod to history as well as its location on Langdons Road. Thomas Langdon was one of the first settlers in the Papanui area, a butcher who became a prominent business man and A&P show judge.
Northlands Centre Manager, Vicki Bain, said Langdons Quarter was designed to accommodate New Zealanders’ ever-growing love of eating out.
“What we are seeing right across New Zealand is a growing love affair with food. Kiwis are seeking more ways to connect socially, and a big part of that social experience is borne out over a great plate of food with friends in lively environments,” said Bain.
Langdons Quarter takes the dining experience at Northlands to a greater level, energising the Langdons Road end of the centre with edgy design and a cosy aesthetic. Our retail design team worked with each tenant’s designers to make sure the designs reached a new level.
Dubbed ‘botanic industrial’, the architecture features exposed steel and concrete flooring in a giant, high-ceilinged space softened by lavish hanging gardens and whitewashed timber.
Fifteen food outlets – a mix of grab’n go, casual and licensed – surround a central dining area. Here, the foodcourt is elevated into a generous and convivial dining space delineated into more intimate zones by a central raised wooden floor, varied seating heights and timber arbours creating private-feeling nooks ideal for a gathering of friends or family.
Langdons Quarter is anchored by four restaurants, Lone Star, Nando’s, Sal’s Pizza and The Coffee Club (opening early-2019). Each restaurant contains enticing indoor/outdoor dining areas which show thoughtful planning for Christchurch’s weather. Lone Star has a 65 seat enclosed courtyard with fire places and the Nando’s courtyard has a retractable roof to make the most of the sunny days.
Once inside, there are fresh options from Aloha Crepes, who are new to New Zealand, along with newcomers to Christchurch, Mad Mex and Ippin Ramen & Bowl. Existing food tenants McDonalds, Hungry Wok and Royal Roasts have all made the move to Langdons Quarter and are joined by new look offers from Mumbai Express, Tank and Adana Grill.
In addition to the creation of Langdons Quarter, the Northlands development includes the reconfiguration of the existing foodcourt which will be completed in early 2019 and improves pedestrian flow within the southern end of the centre. There are also new female bathrooms and the return of a parent room to the southern end of the centre.
