Karingal Hub to unveil brand new fresh food precinct this month

ISPT is set to unveil the first stage of its $160 million revitalisation of Karingal Hub Shopping Centre in Frankston later this month, which will see a reimagined fresh food precinct open to serve local shoppers seeking more choice and convenience in their grocery shop. 

The vibrant new food precinct has been curated in the style of a bustling market and will be underpinned by three leading supermarkets – Coles, ALDI and a newly refurbished Woolworths – in addition to more than 25 fresh food and specialty retailers. 

At the heart of the experience is the brand new 750m2 MarketPlace Fresh grocer, offering locally sourced fruit and vegetables as well as international specialty produce. It will be joined by Pacific Asian Supermarket, Bakers Delight, Ausea Seafood, Lindens Fresh Meats and Poultry Plus. Rounding out the new precinct will be popular food retailers Roll’d, Ferguson Plarre Bakehouse and Walkers Doughnuts along with a large format Matchbox homewares store.

ISPT General Manager Retail Services, Sam Curry, said the first stage was built with the needs of local shoppers at its heart, taking fresh food retail to a new level locally. It aims to revitalise the retail offer by giving customers access to a dynamic mix of independent and locally owned food and specialty stores.

“The first stage of the reimagined Karingal Hub redevelopment offers the community a complete and convenient fresh food destination,” he said.

“It offers not just vibrant new facilities and a sustainable design, but also unmatched convenience with the introduction of three leading supermarkets, fresh produce, a variety of seafood, cafés, services and specialty stores – all in one place, with ample free under cover and open air parking” said Curry.

Karingal Hub Centre Manager, Catherine Polley, said the June 26 launch is an important milestone in the revitalisation of Karingal Hub.

“Our new fresh food precinct responds to growing demand by local shoppers for a broader assortment of market-style fresh food. Our Coles is the latest format, giving customers access to new-to-market mochi, macarons and a mini gelato dessert bar, a specialty pet scoop and weigh service and delicious freshly baked flatbread flipped daily in store.

“We are pleased to be supporting Victorian businesses, with MarketPlace Fresh offering a wide and diverse range of fresh fruit and vegetables plus gourmet, organic and free-range specialty produce.” 

The new centre will be a community hub for locals

In addition to the new food offerings, the revitalised precinct has been designed to achieve a 4-Star Green Star Rating and boasts a 1.3 megawatts solar installation, new touchless amenities and a leading recycling and waste program. 

One of the most unique aspects of the precinct is its state-of-the-art natural ventilation, which helps reduce energy costs and emissions. Three smart skylights are connected to a weather station which can detect weather conditions and adjust ventilation automatically to make the precinct comfortable and airy.

The staged unveiling of Karingal Hub’s redevelopment commences with the fresh food precinct later this month, a new Centre Court and fashion precinct to be unveiled in August and finally the Town Square, the centre’s entertainment, leisure and dining precinct to relaunch later this year.

Free parking has already been increased with the opening of a multi deck car park providing an additional 850 spaces, 40% of all centre parking now undercover.
