In a milestone achievement, WA-based property company, Hawaiian wrapped up 2023 by officially marking its 30th birthday and looks to build on this foundation as it announces the major upgrade of Park Centre to commence in the coming months.
The Town of Victoria Park has conditionally approved its Development Application for an alfresco upgrade at Hawaiian’s Park Centre, marking the evolution of Park Centre as Hawaiian works to create a diverse and vibrant neighbourhood centre with a new outdoor space for the community to enjoy.
The reimagined alfresco area will deliver a spacious outdoor section, complete with new furniture and comfortable seating to create a place for people to enjoy the mix of hospitality offerings soon to arrive.
Richard Kilbane, Chief Operating Officer at Hawaiian said, “We are delighted to receive approval to move ahead with the upgrade of Park Centre’s alfresco dining.”
“The creation of this new covered outdoor space, combined with our planned centre upgrades, the introduction of new independent oriental and fresh food market, Joy Mall and popular food offering, Soul Origin, signifies an exciting time in the transformation of our much-loved centre.”
As a family-owned company, established in 1993, Hawaiian’s first foray into the WA property market was the purchase of a 12-storey office building, located in the heart of Perth’s CBD. Since then, the company has acquired and sold a number of properties, evolving and growing its portfolio of shopping centres as part of the process.
Hawaiian’s first neighbourhood shopping centre purchases were Bassendean Village (now Hawaiian’s Bassendean) and Noranda Shopping Centre (now Hawaiian’s Noranda).
Today, Hawaiian owns and manages 11 neighbourhood shopping centres (including Claremont Quarter, a joint venture with QIC) across Perth, two hotels (Cable Beach Club Resort & Spa and Parmelia Hilton Perth) and two office buildings in the Perth CBD.
Central to Hawaiian’s ethos is a deep commitment to fostering meaningful and long-lasting partnerships which have positive impacts on others, and instilled within the company culture are the strong set of people-focused values and beliefs of the Wen family (owners of the company).
Over the past three decades, Hawaiian has forged strong relationships with community partners including Foodbank, West Coast Eagles, Youth Focus and Telethon to bring unique experiences and provide platforms for connections at its neighbourhood centres.
Kilbane said Hawaiian’s journey over the past 30 years was so much more than about acquiring shopping centres and commercial properties.
“Everything we do is driven by the interests of people and our commitment to nurturing communities to help see them thrive. We have a unique opportunity to make a real difference by connecting people through our neighbourhood centres and this is what we aspire to achieve.
“Over the past 30 years, our approach has been to ensure each centre reflects the needs and wants of the local neighbourhood – and they are all so different. Among the work we did in 2023, we partnered with the local council to integrate a library into our Forrestfield centre, which is proving to be hugely successful,” said Kilbane.
This year, Hawaiian will welcome 26 new food, retail and service tenants across its neighbourhood centres.
A major redevelopment of the Claremont Quarter Laneway and Town Square will also take place.
With a steadfast commitment to creating thriving communities, Hawaiian is deeply committed to creating vibrant neighbourhood shopping centres to enrich the lives of others by connecting people through its places and experiences.
