Shopping Centre News is saddened to report that Shopper CEO and founder Ben Walker passed away peacefully in his sleep on Saturday, 15 January at the age of 47.
Ben has led the growth of Shopper to see it now installed in 400+ local, medium and essential retail shopping centres. Through his leadership, Shopper has received industry recognition as the highest growth offline media company in real dollar terms for both 2019 and 2020 (SMI).
“Ben was a larger-than-life character and an exceptional leader – but above all, he was an extraordinary human being,” says Shopper Chairman David Morgan.
“Ben was passionate about the retail media industry, his clients and his Shopper colleagues, who he regarded as his family.
“Ben founded Shopper in 2015 with co-founder and friend Ed Couche. As a charismatic and visionary leader, Ben built the company with a focus on innovation and people, who he always put first, creating a culture of loyalty and commitment, of which he was very proud. He will be sadly missed by all who worked with him.
“Our thoughts are with his wife Lisa, and two boys during this incredibly difficult time. Those close to him knew that Ben viewed his role as a father and family man as his most important job.”
A GoFundMe campaign has been started for Ben’s family with the campaign organsier saying: “One way to memorialise the life of someone we’ve lost is by helping others. Ben was larger-than-life, passionate about his family, friends and business and he was devoted to giving back to the community.”
“This Go Fund Me page has been set up on behalf of his family to allow us to pay our respects whilst helping others in need. All money raised will go to a charity of Lisa Walker’s choice.”
