The first sod was  turned on western Sydney’s newest shopping destination- Eastern Creek Quarter. Construction of the first stage of Eastern Creek Quarter kicked off today, with the first sod turned on a Woolworths-anchored shopping centre set to bring new levels of convenience to the western Sydney community.

Frasers Property Australia is working with food and restaurant operators, convenience services, recreational retailers and experience providers to create a vibrant and unique shopping destination in Sydney’s west.

Suellen Fitzgerald, Executive Director – Western Sydney Parklands Trust was joined by Peri Macdonald, Executive General Manager – Retail, Frasers Property Australia to turn the first sod on the project in front of a crowd of approximately 50 special guests.

Eastern Creek Quarter – or ECQ – will be a super-neighbourhood centre with a range of specialty stores and services, a large children’s play area and other community amenities.

Stage one of Eastern Creek Quarter is expected to open in late 2019, comprising of a brand new full-line 3,800m2 Woolworths supermarket and BWS liquor store plus a pharmacy, gym, childcare centre, medical centre and vibrant Street Food precinct.

Frasers Property will lodge a DA for stage two of ECQ imminently that will incorporate large format retail, including some exciting new retailers. Stages one and two have an estimated on-completion value of circa $95 million and will cover approximately 22,000m2. Frasers Property is also planning stages three and four at ECQ, with further details expected to be released in 2019.

Peri Macdonald, Executive General Manager – Retail, Frasers Property Australia

Peri Macdonald, Executive General Manager – Retail, Frasers Property Australia says the vision for ECQ is to combine a vibrant mix of shops, dining, entertainment options and community spaces to deliver a place for people to create memorable experiences.

“Eastern Creek Quarter will serve a large and growing catchment, so it’s important we get the retail mix right and create a centre where people can not only do their shopping, but also be entertained, enjoy new experiences and feel at home to socialise with friends,” Macdonald says.

“We’re excited to have Woolworths on board and we are looking to partner with recreational, food and experience operators to create a centre the local community can really engage with and be proud of.

“ECQ will bring something new to the area, including a casual style food precinct showcasing exciting international cuisines to provide a unique dining experience. It’s great to be on site and underway,” he says.

ECQ will be within a 15 minute drive for over 330,000 people and within a 30 minute drive for 1.3 million people.

In late 2016, Frasers Property was awarded exclusive development rights to the 15ha site in Eastern Creek and has collaborated closely with Western Sydney Parklands Trust (WSPT) to progress plans for ECQ. The company has a long-standing relationship with WSPT, having previously delivered the 100ha Eastern Creek Industrial Estate.

Frasers Property is committed to a 6 Star Green Star rating for ECQ and has proposed a design that will respond to its location adjacent to the parklands by integrating recreational facilities and amenities that connect people with the natural bushland.

It will also assimilate with the different local landmarks it will live amongst, including Eastern Creek Raceway, Eastern Road Sports Precinct and the proposed new Sydney Zoo in Bungarribee Park.

Open spaces and networks of bike paths and trails leading to and from the centre will stitch together a regionally-significant zone of recreation that encourages people to get out and explore their local neighbourhoods, even as they run their errands.

A proposed indoor-outdoor gym, an alfresco dining precinct as well as a Street Food laneway will be integrated, while community gardens and public BBQs will extend the notion of what a super-neighbourhood shopping centre can be, combining recreation and retail with places to socialise.
