Clifford Gardens welcomes a greener future following the installation of 3,398 solar panels and 13 inverters. The Toowoomba shopping centre now generates its own power through its rooftop solar panels.
Last week, Clifford Gardens officially began generating its own renewable energy. The centre will produce 2,606,000 kWh of renewable energy annually, which is equivalent to planting 12,508 trees, taking 1,071 cars off the road, or 2,085 tonnes of CO2.
Clifford Gardens Centre Manager, Jessica Wills, said, “We’re thrilled to be generating clean electricity, which not only benefits the tenants and centre, but our community and the planet as well.”
To mark the occasion, Clifford Gardens hosted a solar-bration as they switched on the rooftop solar system. Once the panels were live, festivities continued with cupcakes, a unique display of mini solar homes, and gift bags – complete with a take-home DIY Solar Home Kit and a Clifford Gardens Gift Card.
“We know how important renewable energy is to the residents of Toowoomba, so we’ve been working hard on this project over the last 18 months. We’re looking forward to a greener future, and we loved celebrating with our customers,” said Wills.
According to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water, the commercial building sector is responsible for around 25% of total electricity use and 10% of total carbon emissions in Australia. Within this, retail accounts for half of all energy use in the commercial property sector, and 5% of Australia’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Clifford Gardens is a single level neighbourhood Shopping Centre that opened in 1983 and is located in Toowoomba on the Darling Downs, approximately 120 kilometres west of Brisbane. In 2022, Toowoomba was named as the number four postcode in Queensland for residential rooftop solar.
