Chadstone – The Fashion Capital has partnered with the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV), commencing as major sponsor of the NGV’s Summer 2019/20 exhibition, KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness arriving 20 September 2019 until 13 April 2020.
To celebrate the partnership, the KAWS exhibition will come to life in centre at Chadstone, with school holiday activations and the launch of Spring/Summer 2019 with the centre hosting its In Conversation: The Art of Fashion event exploring the collision of two mediums, art and fashion.
Chadstone Director, Fiona Mackenzie said, Chadstone continues to deliver world class experiences for its visitors and its partnership with the NGV solidifies Chadstone’s continual evolution as a destination to shop, play, dine and be inspired. “We’re excited to bring the KAWS exhibition to Australia, alongside the NGV, and help engage a new audience through our September school holiday program and the first ever NGV design store activation at The Fashion Capital.”
Chadstone shoppers can experience a world of fashion, art and design around every corner as the centre comes alive with unique, tailored activations and interactive experiences.
For the school holidays customers will be able to step inside the world of KAWS at Chadstone and discover more about the artist including his cast of hybrid cartoon and human characters. Create your own unique video portrait with a multimedia interactive experience that encourages visitors of all ages to play with different features of KAWS’ BFF character.
Kids can take home their own pop-up activity with a special set of alphabet stickers drawn by KAWS artist, Brian Donnelly. Young visitors are also invited to get creative with a sketching activity inspired by the artist’s sculptures of his characters that are filled with human emotion and connect to the importance of friendship.
A pop-up NGV design store will be open for the first time at Chadstone with a special retail pop-up open from Saturday 21 Sep until Sunday 6 October, where customers can shop a collection of wares designed and made exclusively for the NGV including a curated selection of KAWS releases for the NGV exhibition KAWS: Companionship in the Age of Loneliness.
