Casula Mall in Western Sydney has undergone a recent development to customise its amenities through the introduction of a multi-faith room.

The project, which also involves the complete refurbishment of the existing male, female, parents’ and accessible bathrooms was commissioned in response to Casula Mall’s ongoing commitment to cater to the diverse needs of the local community and mall staff.

“We recognise that sometimes our shoppers or retail staff are unable to attend their place of worship. That’s why we wanted to provide a safe and convenient place for these community members to reflect, pray and meditate,” said Jacqueline Common, Centre Manager.

As one of the fastest-growing and most diverse regions in Sydney, Western Sydney has a richness of cultural and religious diversity and language. Casula Mall has always been firmly committed to celebrating those differences and, as such, has specifically designed the new space to be welcoming to everyone, no matter their faith.

“We’ve received so much positive feedback from customers and we, as retailers, all agree it’s fantastic to have a space that is safe for everyone to use. Our shoppers no longer need to rush home – they can do their prayers here and continue shopping – so it’s a win-win,” said Abdelhadi Dannaoui, Owner of Sydney Tasty Meats at Casula Mall.

With almost half of the local community born outside of Australia and even more with parents born overseas, Casula Mall’s introduction of a multi-faith room is another step in the right direction to ensure every member of the local community is recognised and considered. The multi-faith room is quiet, minimalistic and nondenominational. It’s accessible to shoppers during the centre’s core trading hours and is limited to two people attending at a time during COVID-19. After-hours access can be requested through on-site security.
