Botany Town Centre in Auckland celebrated the opening of the second stage of its $78 million development on Thursday 19 September. The precinct connecting the Town Centre Drive to New World Supermarket re-opened after a 15 month construction program unveiling a modern and architecturally impressive new look.
Designed by Ignite Architects, the outdoor connections, now an enclosed precinct, retains its outdoor ambience, featuring a bright green welcoming atrium with high level planting, giving shoppers a sense to being outside, although fully sheltered. The new precinct also includes a play area, a welcome addition for local shoppers.
The first stage of the development opened in May this year with the centre welcoming Australian super-retailer Mecca Maxima and international fashion retailer H&M.
Located 19 kilometres from Auckland’s CBD on a high profile site in South East Auckland, the centre is part of a major growth corridor for the Auckland region.
The development is being managed by AMP Capital on behalf of the centre’s owners and is expected to be fully complete by the end of this year.
The extensive development expands the centre to 62,700m2, including an extension to the Fashion Pavilions which will see the number of tenancies grow to more than 200 stores including new fashion and lifestyle brands.
Established in 2001, Botany Town Centre has grown to be one of New Zealand’s top five regional shopping centres, and is the second largest shopping centre in Auckland (by area). The centre has a diverse and comprehensive retail mix of top New Zealand stores, supported by iconic major retailers (Farmers, New World, Hoyts and Whitcoulls). The centre is a true ‘town centre’, also providing medical and health services, banks, a post office, library, childcare facilities and a variety of educational institutions.
