The heart and soul of the Alice Springs town centre and a much-loved facility within the local community, Yeperenye Shopping Centre proposes to build a new five-storey carpark and retail development.

The new development will house 325 new carparks, a rooftop modern bar/restaurant venue, up to two new Quick Service Restaurant (QSR) drive through tenancies, a streetside casual dining restaurant with outdoor seating plus a mini major tenant up to 1,500m2.

The centre will also renovate existing malls and create new tenancies to attract more fashion stores and restaurants that are unrepresented in the town.

An Expression of Interest campaign is underway in search of ideal operators for these unique offerings.

Yeperenye holds a special place in the shopping centre landscape, being the only indigenous-owned shopping centre and landlord in Australia.

Constructed in 1987, Yeperenye is a flagship Aboriginal enterprise and is proud to be a successful indigenous owned business positively contributing to the economic, cultural and social well-being of Central Australia. The centre is home to Woolworths and 50 stores including many national branded retailers.

Yeperenye attracts 4.7 million customer visits annually, approximately the equivalent of the whole towns population passing through the centre every 2.5 days.

The centre achieves MAT sales of $119.7 million per annum or $12,617 MAT/m2 including the supermarket and has seen continual sales growth over the past three years as a sign of resilience and being the heart of the local economy.

Bath Street facade upgrade

In 2021 Yeperenye completed a $3.3 million foodcourt upgrade and outdoor dining precinct renovation which saw the introduction of the first casual dining restaurant in Miyabi Sushi Train. The success of this project and new stores have given Yeperenye the confidence to propose a further investment in order to attract new brands to the town and give customers more choice in their shopping experience.

The new development will transform the site. It is anticipated that many local jobs will be created during construction of the development as well as ongoing jobs once completed.

Owen Cole, Managing Director of Yeperenye, said: “It’s a very exciting opportunity to be bringing this historical and iconic development to the market as a leasing opportunity.

“Yeperenye is well-known as a shopping centre and as an icon of our region. I am proud to launch this campaign as we set to invest in our town again.

“It’s rare for these types of venues to become available and, coupled with an ongoing revitalisation of the centre, the new venues will take Alice Springs into a new era of modernity and retail convenience,” said Cole.

Expressions of Interest close on 30th April. Interested parties are asked to contact Pieter Haverhoek from Inside:Out Retail Property for any queries.
