Christchurch’s Merivale Mall preserves its reputation for style with a $10 million development that will upgrade amenities, common spaces and lighting and see store fronts and interiors given fresh and modern refits. The 18 month development and refurbishment will be open by late 2018, with the transformation set to cement Merivale Mall’s premium positioning.
The centre, owned by Fisher Funds and managed by AMP Capital have released details about the new retailers arriving at the centre.
Before the end of the year, Merivale Mall will open three, sought-after fashion retailers: Decjuba, Blue Illusion, Flo & Frankie – the brand’s first store in Christchurch – and opening in early 2019, a standalone Sportscraft Man, which is a New Zealand first.
The centre’s upmarket fashion offerings are being further enhanced with the entry of Sportscraft and Sportscraft Man, the renowned Australian fashion and lifestyle brand known for outstanding quality and timeless, classic pieces, and Dyrberg Kern, a new concept store. Adding to the food and lifestyle choices is a new outlet for the popular Tank Juice.
In addition to the new retailers, Andrea Biani has opened its renewed, refitted store, while Fresh Choice, the centre’s major tenant, is undertaking its own dramatic refurbishment, sporting a brand-new look and a gourmet deli-kitchen, with a new focus on fresh, local, artisan foods. The Papanui Road and west entrances are now complete, with soaring, double-height glass allowing natural light to flood in. The north entrance is likewise undergoing a major upgrade.
Nicola Dolan, Centre Manager for Merivale Mall, says, “The refurbishment is progressing well, and it’s been exciting to see a huge amount of progress within the centre. Customers are starting to see the changes that we have had in the pipeline come to life and it’s very pleasing to see their reactions.”
The new Flo & Frankie store will be the first of its kind to open in Christchurch (and the first in the South Island; currently with four stores in Auckland). A family business about five years old, Flo & Frankie aims to bridge the gap between exclusive high-end brands and chain stores.
Ruby Conyngham, Brand Warrior and Buyer for Flo & Frankie, says,” We source over 200 of our favourite local and global designers across fashion, homewares and accessories to bring together an eclectic mix of contemporary trends. We aim to create an exciting shopping experience that oozes warmth, effortless charm and personality, so that our customers feel great while shopping with us. Our carefully sourced products inspire simple, joyful living and our unique store environment doesn’t take itself too seriously while offering a visual celebration for the senses.
“We believe our strong family values and passion for everything we do sets us apart from other stores. We love working together as a family to develop a brand that we are passionate about, and we have always placed the highest of importance on customer service by striving to create a genuinely friendly shopping environment as the backbone of our business.”
“Our philosophy and the reason we started Flo & Frankie was to help motivate and inspire women to feel great about themselves. We can’t wait to arrive in Christchurch, and Merivale Mall is the perfect location for our debut.” she continued.
The mall, situated in the heart of Merivale Village, is known for the relaxed elegance of its 40-plus stores, which include designer boutiques, lifestyle outlets and chic restaurants and bars.
