AMP Capital’s Quay Quarter Tower at Circular Quay has achieved a 6 Star Green Star – Office Design rating from the Green Building Council of Australia, for its innovative environmental features and vertical village design which optimises the existing building’s embodied energy and resources, resulting in a remarkably efficient plan.

AMP Capital Managing Director, Office & Logistics, Luke Briscoe said: “This is another significant achievement for the landmark development being managed by AMP Capital and is a testament to our focus and commitment to deliver sustainable outcomes for the customers, community and owners of the building.

“We’re focused on creating a globally significant precinct that will transform the workplace through cutting-edge design, future-proofed technology and wellbeing, whilst ensuring Quay Quarter Tower operates at its best over the long term. Achieving this rating at design stage and ultimately on completion is critical to being able to deliver on this vision,” Briscoe said.

Quay Quarter is one of the most significant developments in the Circular Quay precinct

Quay Quarter Tower will set new benchmarks for employee lifestyle and operational efficiency through its focus on high performance, flexible spaces and sustainability, through revolutionary environmental features:

• High indoor environmental quality, excellent natural light, views, active noise control and creating seamless indoor-outdoor workplaces through a series of terraces – more than 4,000m2 of green space throughout the sky park and terraces

• Large floorplates of approximately 2,000m2 each which provide a high degree of efficient, flexible workspace which support diversity in the type and character of spaces and allow a broad range of experiences to be created

• A unique facade which uses a high-performance shading system to maximise daylight and views, whilst reducing glare and solar radiation, minimising the need for blinds and enhancing thermal comfort

Most notably though, in a world-first, around two-thirds of the building’s original core has been retained through the construction process, resulting in a carbon saving of 6.1 million kilograms, which is the equivalent of around 35,000 Sydney to Melbourne air flights. Green Building Council of Australia chief executive officer Davina Rooney said the construction of Quay Quarter Tower around an existing core highlighted the cutting-edge carbon-reduction techniques underway in Australia’s property industry.

“The achievement of a 6 Star Green Star rating demonstrates world leadership on sustainability in the built environment. Quay Quarter Tower is among the latest and most innovative of the more than 2350 Green Star-certified projects around Australia. These Green Star-rated projects – including buildings, fitouts and communities – are helping to improve environmental efficiency while boosting productivity and increasing health and well-being for people,”  Rooney said.

Achieving this rating is part of the Quay Quarter vision

Delivering a truly activated vertical village, Quay Quarter Tower is set to be a powerful enabler of change; a zone of diversity, creativity and connectivity that will revolutionise how people work. Designed by Danish Architects 3XN, Quay Quarter Tower sets a new global benchmark in workplace design and innovation.

Construction of Quay Quarter Tower by partner Multiplex is on schedule for practical completion in early 2022. With more than 8,000m2 of retail across the precinct, the retail leasing program, finely tuned towards lifestyle, wellbeing and dining, is well under way.
