Today, AMP Capital officially opens the first section of the new-look Fashion Loop at Karrinyup Shopping Centre as part of its $800 million development. The major development, which AMP Capital is managing on behalf of owner UniSuper, commenced in November last year and will see the centre almost double in size, growing from 59,874m2 to 109,000m2 (GLA), with a target completion at the end of 2021.
City of Stirling Mayor, Councillor Mark Irwin and AMP Capital Shopping Centres Managing Director, Mark Kirkland commemorated the significant development milestone with an official ribbon cutting ceremony at 8.30am.
The launch of the first section of the new-look Fashion Loop will welcome high-profile international fashion retailers H&M and Swarovski to the centre, alongside an expanded location for premium Australian beauty retailer MECCA. It’s the first stage of the Fashion Loop which will spark Karrinyup’s transformation into a more sophisticated and inspirational retail experience which on completion will offer approximately 290 specialty stores, further cementing Karrinyup as a fashion, beauty and lifestyle destination.
To celebrate this first development milestone, a four-day fashion and beauty extravaganza will follow the ribbon cutting, giving customers a taste of the exciting things to come as Karrinyup continues to evolve throughout the development, led by Australian fashion icon and beauty entrepreneur Elle Ferguson who has made her way to Perth to celebrate the launch of the first section of the new-look Fashion Loop.
Karrinyup Shopping Centre, Centre Manager Tim Richards, said the launch is an exciting milestone for the major Karrinyup Shopping Centre development and he is thrilled to be welcoming Elle Ferguson to the centre as part of the celebrations.
“Elle has cemented herself as one of Australia’s leading fashion icons and beauty entrepreneurs and her aesthetic very much aligns with Karrinyup’s inspiring retail offering, so she was a natural choice to help us celebrate this exciting new chapter in the evolution of the centre. We hope customers will enjoy discovering the new retailers, revamped locations for existing stores and all the activities we have planned, this is just a small taste of the exciting things to come as the centre continues to evolve”, said Richards.
Elle Ferguson said she is thrilled to be coming back to Perth to be part of the first celebration of Karrinyup Shopping Centre’s development.
“I had the pleasure of visiting Karrinyup Shopping Centre a few years ago, so I’m really looking forward to seeing the transformation. Customers are in for a real treat, it’s going to be such a fun few days – the centre is literally going to sparkle and we have so many activities and surprises planned, it’s a very exciting time for Karrinyup and its customers”, said Ferguson.
In addition to the new retailers, a number of other specialty retailers including kikki.K and The Body Shop will be relocated to the new-look Fashion Loop, sparking the centre’s transformation into a more sophisticated, inspirational retail experience for Karrinyup customers.
The Fashion Loop will open in its entirety in late 2020. It is a significant element of the overall development which on completion will offer approximately 290 specialty stores including high-quality local, national and international fashion retailers, an extensive food and beverage offering, new Coles and ALDI supermarkets and a state-of-the-art 10 screen HOYTS cinema.
As part of this launch Karrinyup Shopping Centre will also welcome the opening of a new multi-deck car park with 700 bays and a parking guidance system as well as a refurbishment of Australian retailer BIG W.
The development is expected to boost the Western Australian economy and retail sector, with the creation of approx. 2,500 jobs during construction and 2,500 new retail, support and management jobs. Multiplex has been appointed to build the new centre.
