A Community Reflection Day will be held today, Thursday 18 April at Westfield Bondi to commemorate the tragic events that occurred in the centre on Saturday that resulted in six innocent people losing their lives, including one of Scentre Group’s security team members.
The centre will be on quiet settings with no background music and no advertising on digital screens. There is a space to come together and reflect on Level 4, near Myer.
Condolence books will be made available in hard copy and online for those who wish to sign. Visitors will be offered black ribbon commemoration pins to wear as a symbol of respect to remember the victims.
Mental health counsellors from Assure and Lifeline, along with other community partners, will be available to speak with those who may need support during their visit.
Scentre Group CEO Elliott Rusanow said: “Today Westfield Bondi will host a Community Reflection Day between 11am and 5pm for the community to visit and pay their respects following the tragic events last Saturday.
“The day will be on quiet settings with no retail trade.
“All Westfield destinations will mark the Community Reflection Day by displaying only the black ribbon on digital screens.
“Since the tragedy last Saturday, our priority has been engaging with the victims’ families, those directly impacted and the community on how to respond.
“We have been engaging directly with our business partners throughout this period to support them, including providing counselling and mental health support.
“In light of the tragic events, rent at Westfield Bondi for the week from Saturday 13 April until Friday 19 April inclusive will be waived.
“Our Businesses team will continue to engage directly with each of our business partners on the support they need to re-open and reconnect with their customers and the community.”
Westfield Bondi will re-open for trade on Friday 19 April at the normal trading hours of 9:30am to 6:00pm.
