The iconic Marina Mirage on the Gold Coast has inked a deal that will see a high-end food marketplace become the Gold Coast waterfront icon’s anchor tenant. The retail property group, which purchased the shopping and dining destination in 2013, has confirmed a marquee tenant has signed a lease for 2,100m2 and will develop the project over the next 12 to 18 months.

The owner, Makris Group’s  Chief Operating Officer Jason Makris said details about the operator would be announced in coming months, but revealed several hospitality operators were preparing to unveil new and refurbished offerings at the Main Beach hot spot, including a gelataria and an exciting new waterfront venue due to open in 2019. The centre has also confirmed that a new Greek offering is due to open over Summer.

“While we are unable to reveal specifics about the tenant, their pending arrival undoubtedly marks a watershed moment for Marina Mirage,” he said.

“Locals and tourists have long associated the centre with the finer things in life and this exciting new food destination will continue that proud tradition. Marina Mirage will be home to a multifaceted marketplace offering fresh food produce including meat, seafood, cheese and fruit and vegetables, not to mention convenience items and a range of beverages including premium liquor. We have previously signalled our intentions to roll out an ambitious redevelopment strategy for the centre and our new food marketplace forms an integral part of that vision.” said Makris

“Food is one of life’s great pleasures and we are creating an environment where people can indulge their passion under the one roof,” Makris said.

“Marina Mirage will be a place shoppers and diners can find food of the highest quality being served by people as enthusiastic about fresh ingredients and delicacies as they are. Coupled with million-dollar views, it’s little wonder tenants are so excited by the change unfolding at Marina Mirage.”

Covering more than 12,200m2 and with 657 car park spaces, Marina Mirage comprises about 80 stores including designer boutiques, lifestyle stores, restaurants, cafes and its own 80-berth floating marina.
